Christy Sports Keystone River Run — Local services in Silverthorne

Max is an amazing boot fitter! I bought a new pair of boots after being fitted at another Christy's location. I rode them multiple days last season and spent ALOT of time in the Christy's stores in Vail and Bever Creek doing molding, shaping, custom insoles, heal lifts....removing heal lifts......we tried everything! Unfortunately I finished the season walking off the mountian in socks because I was in so much pain. I went to Keystone this weekend and made a run on the boots hoping that MAYBE the adjustments made last year would maybe feel better this season when I was fresh getting on the slopes. After my first long run it was very apparent that was not the case.

I came into the Keystone village store and told Max the problems I was having. He suggested that MAYBE these just weren't the right boots for me. I was hesitant to start over breaking in new boots again after such a horrible experience. So he put me in a pair of rental boots to help me decide if there was a form problem, it was just fatigue or if it really was the boots causing all my pain. After I was able to ski in the rentals without the pain I was having I was convinced that I did indeed have the wrong boots. He took some time and helped me figure out the right boots. He exchanged the other ones I had for the new boots. I am in love with the fit and performance of the boots he suggested. They fit perfect without any adjustments. I am so happy that I am finishing out the weekend just a little tired but...

They seemed like nice people but they thought they were so smart they would not listen to us for a ski boot size. They sold my son a 800 dollar pair of ski boots that were too small and they would not believe him that they were too small from day one. His foot measures 28 and they sold him a 26.5. He wears a size 11 shoe and should of had a 28 shell. We told them right off the bat they were too small as his previous boots were 28s but they would not believe him. They tried everything spent hours trying to get them to fit only making them tighter and more pain. He couldn't take having the boots on his feet for more than a hour without feet going numb and becoming very painfull. Wasted 3 days of skiing trying to get the boots to fit. Finally the 4th day he was in so much pain and they still would listen but by then he didn't want a boot fitted at christys sports in Keystone anymore they took the boots back so to their credit they did give us our money back. Went and rented a pair of boots at a small local shop in idaho springs to see what would fit and they rented him a 28.5 as he measured. those 28.5 rented boots worked perfectly and no pain. So we will be buying boots there as they fit from day one when given the right size. Moral of the story is don't waste your time by listening and fitting ski boots by a sales person at christys sports expecially if they try to drop you down 4 sizes to a ski boot that doesn't fit from day one and will not...

Short Version: Great selection of demo skis plus very knowledgeable and helpful staff, great selection of demo skis. And the best part they were less expensive. Christy sports get way more for less

Long Version: I fell in to the epic rewards trap and regretted it. My wife and I Rented form Keystone Sports (which is owned by Vail Resorts) My wife tried on her boots, and they were very tight and narrow the girl helping had no idea what to do, literally asked my wife what to do. she told her to get her different boots. The new boots were better but still not a good fit, by the end of the day had blisters on her ankles. When we both looked at skis (we rented Demo skis) they asked how long of ski we wanted and told us to pick from basically all the same skis, I asked some basic questions about the performance and how the turned and she had no idea just pick any off this rack. We skied all day on them and returned all our gear. We went across the street to Christy Sports, talked to them very helpful and most importantly knowledgeable had a large selection of Demo Skis and they knew how they all performed set us each up with skis to our liking.
