My husband and I visited literally a dozen mattress stores in our shopping adventure, and our experience at Purple was the worst. Fortunately, you do not have to go here to try their bed tech; they also have Purple down the street at Raymour and Flanigan's, and at Mattress Firm across the river.
All we wanted to do was to see how comfortable their mattresses were and compare prices, but the salesperson stopped us in our tracks and peppered us with questions and made us sit through a presentation we didn't care about as we were standing there holding our pillows waiting to lay down. One of those questions was "Who is this for?" which is not something we were asked at any of the other stores. The people at the other stores did not seem confused about why two guys would be mattress shopping together - if they were, they diplomatically kept that potentially homophobic question to themselves until it became clear in context.
We said we had just bought a full-sized bed frame, because that's what fits in our room and what we've had for 20+ years. Only 3 models here come in that size (which is not true for a lot of conventional brands). The salesperson gave us a super hard upsell, badmouthing the cheapest of the three as something low-quality (despite its long warranty) people hardly ever buy, and seemed incredulous we would find the mid-range model more comfortable than the most expensive. He also outrageously recommended that we upgrade to a queen-sized bed, because otherwise we couldn't buy the super-expensive luxury model we had no interest in. The best experience we had on our adventure was at Bob's, where the salesperson asked, "do you need help?" and we said "no" and they went away and let us try the beds in peace. That's what I would recommend Purple train its staff to do. (That's also where we ended up buying, as we found the pillowtops there more comfortable...
Read moreAlmost comical experience here with sleazy mattres salesman. Came in, asked for general range of a purple mattress, got $3-4k (that was for the most luxury hybrid king), they didn’t even mention the normal, most purchased Purple Mattress (about $1500 full price) and were shocked when I even asked about it.
So then we started focusing on the standard purple, I asked how much and she said $1,500. I knew there was a $400 off sale online, but she didn’t bring it up at all, so i asked her “what about the online sale?”, she acted like she had no clue. So I went online on my phone and showed her. My phone now was actually showing $1,400 as full price, instead of $1,500 I saw before, so $1,000 after.
Suddenly she found the $400 off sale, but couldn’t understand why the difference in the full price. I asked why she couldn’t honour the online price, her co worker said they upped the price 2 weeks ago and I won’t be able to buy online. At this point, she’s exhausted from all the lies, and had just given up on any form of real customer service.
So I told her, I don’t have a choice, I’ll have to buy it online as cheaper, and she won’t get the sale.
So I did just that, I walked out and purchased it online for $1k.
Be careful of sleazy mattress salesman, this particular store seems...
Read moreJust to preface, this review is no reflection on the staff. The man who helped us was very helpful and answered all of our questions.
We had purchased two Dreamlayer pillows as we found these provide excellent support for our necks. These had a horrible off gassing smell when coming out of the bag, however this is to be expected with these boxed mattress and pillow products nowadays. We set these up in our pillow cases excited to see how we slept and went to bed. My wife (who has asthma) woke up several times in the night with coughing fits worse than when she has been sick. She didn't have a fever so I thought maybe it had something to do with the new pillows. I decided to open them up and found this white powder inside of these pillows that appears to be the cause of her coughing fits. Purple claims that this is non toxic and safe however, after going back to her old pillow she has no issues.
They do allow returns but require you to try the product for 21 days. This leaves us with this potentially harmful pillow for the next two weeks. Very disappointed because I personally slept amazingly but will not continue to sleep on a pillow that is covered in a substance that irritates my...
