The restaurant is beautiful - open windows, patio, communal tables, etc. I imagine it'd be even more beautiful on a warmer evening.
Tip - If someone in your group has a handicap, make sure you request a non-bar/standard table, especially for a large party. In our party of 10, one grandmother uses a cane and another a walker. Turns out there's a bar table that can seat 10. They had to scramble to pull together tables so our grandmothers can sit easily.
Dinner was off to a good start until our drink orders came in. I had ordered the Sauvignon Blanc flight (three 2oz glasses) and my fiancé a beer. The server was getting ready to place the drinks down when all of a sudden a waterfall of beer and wine came pouring down on top of me, luckily only on the left side of my body. My fiancé got wet but not as bad. I wasn't upset but more shocked that it happened. I got up to go to the bathroom to dry up. A lady (maybe GM?) told me that I would get reimbursed for dry cleaning. They gave me a slip to fill out in which we thought, this must happen a lot if there's a slip for it! The server was very apologetic. The lady checked up on me when I got out of the bathroom, apologized and reiterated the fact that I was going to get my dry cleaning reimbursed. I was being a good sport about it and joked with them. Accidents happen. Thank goodness for my denim jacket for catching a bulk of it and my skirt that dried up quickly using the hand dryer in the bathroom. My hair smelled but that was okay. I couldn't imagine sitting at dinner soaking wet!
The food was standard for Legals. However, the appetizers were good - fried pickles, calamari, cauliflower. Bread was a bit stale. Two out of the three wines were really good. The chocolate mousse parfait was good but would have preferred just the mousse instead of layers of whipped cream. Our server was nice but was slightly overbearing, maybe because of what happened.
Tip - My sister's friend who used to work at Legals said they only offer cleaning services as comps. Just a heads up if you ever have anything...
Read moreI have eaten at different legal seafoods many times and have enjoyed the experience. However, this time was by far one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in awhile. Our server took 22 minutes to come and greet us at the table to take a order. Then another 10 minutes to get drinks. So we were seated 30 minutes before even getting drinks. The server said she was going to get bread and then forgot. My companion ordered the salmon with beurre blanc sauce. It did not come with any sauce. They did not explain why this was the case so we called her back to ask. They said they were out of sauce which seemed particularly strange given buerre blanc sauce is just wine, vinegar, cream and butter. When I said this should have been disclosed before serving the meal that we paid for, she just said sorry but did not suggest any solutions. For dessert we ordered the Key lime pie with raspberries. They were apparently out of raspberries, so just decided to put strawberries on it instead. Not really a big deal, but this is just careless especially if we had had an allergy to strawberries or just wanted raspberries. The pie was very mediocre and looked factory made. Ordered sparkling water with lime. The server brought over the sparkling water and then went to the bar and got a bunch of limes that she wrapped up in a napkin and put the napkin on our table. This was a bit gross. The server never checked in to see how we were enjoying the meal. We are not whiny, wealthy people who feel entitled to the fastest service and most amazing experiences. Rather, we just appreciate a level of professionalism and feeling we are welcome when we dine out. We did not feel that at all Legal Seafoods in Somerville. All of these relatively minor things added up to a really poor experience and presented the restaurant as if it does not care about its guests’ experience. Our server ended up comping our drinks which we appreciated, but I much rather would have paid for them to have a...
Read moreI had the worst Legal Seafood meal at this location 08/20/20. My Cajun salmon (ordered medium) with a skewer of lemon butter scallops and broccoli (ordered well cooked) was served with the salmon practically raw and without seasoning. Cajun seasoning was oddly set on the table in a stainless-steel cup. WHO DOES THAT??? I sent my meal back explaining to the server that the salmon was almost raw and asked why they gave me Cajun seasoning instead of cooking the salmon in it. The server apologized and took my dish. I told my sister to continue eating her Caesar salad with grilled shrimp.
I couldn't even eat bread because it was rock hard. I tapped the bread on the table for the server so he could hear that it sounded like a rock. He apologized again and got more bread.
The salmon reappeared about 20 mins later. This time - well done, still without Cajun seasoning, and now with raw broccoli. I pulled the scallops into my bread dish. I asked the server to remove the salmon and instead requested another skewer of lemon butter scallops. My sister's meal was ruined as she waited while I twice received improperly prepared meals and now watched me eat scallops off a used bread plate.
Someone who never identified herself appeared w/the 2nd skewer of scallops about 20 mins later. She offered a hollow apology while simultaneously avoiding eye contact. She disappeared and never returned. The scallops were without lemon butter sauce and slightly undercooked.
The meal was so bad that they comped the entire check. I expected a camera crew to pop out before we left saying it was a practical joke.
I’d eaten there before and received great service/food. While our server was exceptional, the manager was unprofessional, and the kitchen staff were surely all culinary school failures (at least that night). We also dodged little flies around our table the entire time. There was NOTHING that would tempt us to return to Legal on the Mystic. I gave one star because zero is...
