Joy of Home — Local services in South Burlington

For everyone who complains that we don't still have wonderful local shops and vendors, Joy of Home proves them wrong in the best way. This woman-owned business opened over a year ago and its owner, Alisa Darmstadt, brought with her many years of local experience in the home decor, fabric and reupholstery business. I've been a satisfied customer of Alisa's since she opened the store, and I can't say enough good things about how she runs the shop and the quality workmanship of the things that I've ordered, including new custom bar stool cushions and bedroom curtains. The store has a lovely collection of fabrics, as well as fabric books from which to order, and some carefully curated home decor items, including from women artists and cooperatives. It's also a great place to shop for holiday and birthday gifts. Not only does Joy of Home meet a wonderful need on the interior design front, but Alisa is a generous proprietor who donates to local nonprofits and causes. I went to Joy of Home to see about having a chair reupholstered. First I had to choose a material. I knew I wanted a velvet, but it turns out there are quite a few different types of velvet, made with different materials, and a different price points. Alisa was a tremendous help; explaining how the materials would wear for a chair. I am so pleased with the choice of material and the work that was done with the reupholstering from Joy of Home. I would recommend working with Alisa at Joy of Home to anyone who wants to get their couch reupholstered. We had been looking for a new couch for six months in the stores and just couldn’t find what we were looking for. We then hired an Upholsterer who said that he would take the job but then didn’t call us back for weeks.
