Art Works Frame Shop — Attraction in South Burlington

James has been a wonderful collaborator of mine for nearly a decade now- framing several of my person projects as well as more recently exhibits I’ve produced in my role as the director of the Vision & Voice Gallery program at the Vermont Folklife Center in Middlebury, Vermont. First and foremost, James is a craftsman that takes his creative and hand on role with the artwork seriously. He is willing to take risks around what’s possible, but is conservative when considering the archival and structural integrity of the pieces he frames- and has on more than one occasion helped to steer me in the right direction. At this point I’ve lost count, but he’s probably framed 60+ pieces for me at least and each one is very literally certified with his personal stamp of quality and approval. I truly value having such a trusting partner to help execute the incredibly important production stage of presenting artworks. I had a fantastic first experience framing something at Art Works. It was actually a couple years ago now but my frame still looks brand new, granted all it does is hang on the wall, haha. I can't really speak to the pricing since I've never had anything custom framed before but it was under $200 for a fairly large custom frame for a map (it was a gift), and that included the tax and also a medium piece of replacement glass for a different frame that I had and the glass had broken, so I thought it was totally fair. Art Works is a fantastic locally-owned and operated business that produces great work. I came in with a big ask, and they were able to finish 7 very large-scale framing projects (all with mats) a whole day before my deadline. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I was really amazed that they were willing to take on this task in such a short period of time.
