Mountain West — Local services in South Lake Tahoe

I came to South Lake Tahoe knowing I'd need to buy skis that would allow me to enjoy the conditions. My 9-year-old east coast skis were just way too small underfoot and not gonna cut it in powder! After demo-ing through another shop, I felt like I hadn't found the right pair of skis. I really needed some guidance.

From the moment I walked into the shop, Arturo's expertise in all things skiing was evident. He blew me away with the depth of his knowledge, his kindness, and the personalized service he provided. And it was obvious to me that other customers felt this way, too! He greeted everyone coming in and out of the shop like an old friend. It was awesome to watch. :)

Arturo listened attentively to my experiences demoing other skis (even though it was through a different shop) and used that information to make thoughtful recommendations. I never once felt rushed or pressured to make a purchase. I felt like Arturo genuinely cared about finding the best skis for me, rather than just trying to make a sale.

I left Mountain West with the perfect pair of skis (way better than anything I demoed or looked into myself). Arturo and his shop are such a gem! I'd highly recommend him to anyone in the South Lake Tahoe area. PS: His prices are also super, super good -- especially for how awesome...

After several years of renting skis and snowboards and never having things fit right, we decided to buy our own gear. We looked on yelp and found this store close by and decided to check them out. This is an owner operated store with a great selection of excellent brands and the owner “Arturo” has a ton of knowledge and was absolutely awesome to work with. You just don’t find the level of customer service we experienced these days. There was no rush and no high pressure sales. The focus was making sure everything fit right and let me tell you, once you get gear that is custom fitted to you, the feel is night and day. They also have a service shop in the back and the owner personally mounted everything perfectly and because my foot is wide and weird shaped, he used a specialized machine to expand my boots in the areas where there was pressure on my feet so they fit just right. I can’t recommend this place enough. They also offer rental gear and it was way higher quality than any of the rentals we previously had in Tahoe and much less expensive than other shops (and they make sure the gear fits whether you are renting or buying). Again, you just don’t find this level of customer service these days!...

These guys basically do it all, and if they don’t, they’ll happily point you towards the direction you want to go - a rarity in this...
