La Promesa — Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe

I went there because of the reviews and because it was the closest things to us.But oh my how rude was the young men that was taking my order. He was just like mad we were even there to order and never said hi thank you or what he would suggest. Everytime I order one thing he was like "okay!!! What else?" But in a bad tone. I had my little ones hungry so I order quick but I would of just turned around and walked away (they forgot my drinks) but i just wanted to leave ohh ... and kuddos to the nice gentleman next door (donut place)selling donuts and coffee.he was super welcoming and very kind. And the best donuts I've tried too. Fyi!! I had to fill the bad taste of that...

There are a lot of great Mexican food places in Lake Tahoe. For that reason I have to give La Promesa only three stars simply because of its competition. The food is good, the prices a bit higher then it's competition, and portions, like most Mexican food, is generous. What keeps this from getting four stars or more is the food isn't much better than its competition, but being tucked away in a shopping center and the indoor seating being plastic molded seats, prevent this from getting more than three stars in my opinion. Definitely not the prettiest place i've eaten. It was recommended to us by a server in a fancier restaurant. We asked him what was the best Mexican food in the area. He was from Mexico and said La Promesa was his favorite. The food and service were fantastic. I had a chimichanga with shredded beef and chorizo. It was excellent. I was with 3 other people who all had a different burrito and everyone loved them. We ate there since we were starving and didn't feel like traveling.
