Disappointing Experience at Saltgrass Lake Tahoe
My kids and I were really excited to eat at Saltgrass in Lake Tahoe on June 14th, 2025 at 8:30 PM. Weâve been to the Laughlin location several times and always had a great time, so we expected the same here but it didnât turn out that way.
Our waitress was nice when she came by, but she was gone for long periods. I wanted to ask for another menu item, but she wasnât around. A manager in a blue shirt was walking around checking on other tables asking if food was good and if they needed anything else. When he got near us, he completely skipped our table and went to the ones behind us. That felt rude and dismissive and it set a very negative tone for the evening.
We ordered steak, shrimp, and BBQ ribs. When the food came, everything was cold. I had ordered loaded mashed potatoes, but they came plain. I told the waitress, and she brought the toppings on the side but since the potatoes were cold, the cheese and butter didnât melt and didnât taste right. My husband also got loaded mashed potatoes. His looked better, but he said they were cold too. Cold ribs and fried steak are not good. We were starving after a long day, so we ate some of it even though we werenât happy.
I was already upset, but when I stepped outside and my husband told me the total was almost $190, I was even more frustrated. On top of that, when I went to get our parking validated, the hostess at the front was in a bad mood. She didnât smile, didnât look at me, and just seemed angry the whole time. I even saw her photo in one of the reviews, so it looks like others had bad service too.
I wish I had read the reviews before coming. If I had, I wouldnât have brought my family here. This was a really bad experience, and we definitely prefer the Laughlin...

FORTUNATELY, THEY WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS VERY SOON BECAUSE MANY OTHER FRIENDS HAVE ALSO STATED THE FOOD IS SUBPAR AND SERVICE IS NOT GOOD. GOOD RIDDANCE. Everything from the start was terrible. No valet parking. No free parking. Ordered the filet mignon and they were out. Okay, I understand that. So I ordered a rib eye steak blue. If you do not know what blue is, then you share something with a chef because they thought that was medium rare. Obviously overcooked. While the name is Saltgrass, I did not realize the primary ingredient on the steak was going to be salt. Basically tasted like like beef jerky. Could not have been more than a quarter inch thick. I have not had a steak like this since I ate at Sizzlers. Sadly I have eaten at Saltgrass before in Texas and it was one of my favorite restaurants to go to. I've also eaten at the ones I think in Colorado and they were delicious. So my expectations in Lake Tahoe was going to be they were close to that level. I could have saved myself $50 and bought a Salisbury steak at Safeway frozen foods and been happier. So disappointed. On the positive side, the service was good so kudos to the employees. Unfortunately, they need to send the chef back to Barton cafeteria. What a waste of money. Save your money and have a burger at Lucky Beaver.

Our waitress was very nice but there was tons of confusion with the bill because she charged incorrect cards even after we broke everything down. The entire correction process took at least 30 minutes after we were done eating. They didn't even have the courtesy to comp some of the items that were initially brought in very cold and only served way after we had dug into the rest of our food.
Then when we tried to leave and get our parking validated and the front staff was very rude. Due to the issues with the receipts, we discarded most of them since they were incorrect. We explained that we no longer had them due to a huge mix up but all they could say is that they needed it without saying why.
We had to go back to the table to rifle through all kinds of copies to find our own and then the hostess tries to quiz us to make sure that it is as ours? She did not explain the process which left us more frustrated.
I finally decided to speak to the manager. He was nice, but he should have definitely been more involved and taken care of some of the items for all the trouble that we were caused. On top of that, the rude hostess tried to interrupt me when I was speaking to the gentleman. The entire thing was just ridiculous....
