Very disappointed New Years Eve experience. There are a lot of better dinning experiences in South Lake, spend your money somewhere else.
Pre fixed NYE menu left a lot to be desired. We knew it would be a prefixed $150 per person menu, what we didn't know is that it wouldn't be different from any other dinner service and when looking at the regular prices, there was no way the three courses that were offered on this menu would add up to $150. It was a normal menu with a higher price tag... pretty awful.
Many restaurants do a pre fixed holiday menu, but you also get a lot more. Maybe 5 courses instead of 3, a glass of champagne at the very lest, or a wine pairing. We expected a better experience for the money spent which ended up being over $500. The food was good, but was warm at best. Certainly not worth $500. COFFEE was not even included and that ended up being dark hot water.
I received 3 shrimp cocktail, a bowl of lobster bisque and Chilean sea bass. Two glasses of wine, each $25 dollars. There was no choice of dessert, you got what they gave you. I was supposed to get creamed spinach but asparagus came on the plate. Why not update your menu or have the server mention the vegetable was changed. She did however make sure to try and upsell us on $75 truffle shavings for our dishes.
The servers were polite and dinner was spaced well. The ambiance was fine, but it does not look like the pictures that are online, I assume those were taken in the old space. The bar was blah.
Hell's Kitchen is on the casino level and offers better food and surprise!, there is a $150 dinner option that is three courses and INCLUDES wine pairing. There are a few other very high quality restaurants in South Lake, we won't be going back to Sage Room. I hope this is helpful for anyone who wants to spend money on a fancy dinner to look elsewhere. We feel taken advantage of because it was a special occasion, but to put it into more perspective, a 5 star establishment down the road was doing $150 pre fixed 5 course dinner on...
Read moreWe were able to get a last-minute reservation for three adults during 4th of July weekend. 7:45 p.m. was the best time to come for dinner because you can see a gorgeous sunset over South Lake Tahoe as you dine.
The food and drink was great here. Cocktails tasted good, not too strong. Appetizer of Korean pork belly was a tad small to share between 3 people, but the flavor was spot on and it was tender and cooked well. My husband and our friend ordered the filet and ribeye respectively; both steaks were seasoned and cooked properly with the ribeye being "the best" our friend has ever had. I ordered the lamb chops which reflected a variable preparation since the physical menu was different from the online version. Mine had an eastern Mediterranean flavor profile with warm spices, couscous, and a yogurt sauce, but it all worked well together. The chops themselves were a good size, a perfect medium rare, and the fat was rendered nicely. The banoffee tart with bruleed banana was a nice way to end the meal and our friend enjoyed the chocolate gelato. We did see three parties order the bananas foster so that preparation was fun to watch as well.
The service I think was more hit or miss. The hostess staff was polite, not overly friendly but a little reserved. Our server Jeremy was great, he was attentive and kept us informed of when our food and drinks were coming. Wait staff kept bringing water which was nice. The bar and kitchen appeared to be slammed since it took a while for the food and drinks to come out, not only for us but some of the other tables had a decent wait for their orders. It's understandable for a holiday weekend but I also think they could've used more staff that night.
Overall our experience was enjoyable. It was pricey but I think worth it because the food quality was great. I'd like to come back when it's not as busy and see there's a difference in service. Can't beat the views and that...
Read moreThis was one of the saddest dining experiences I have ever had. The ambience and decor of this restaurant was pretty drab from what I remembered from ten years ago. The food was very mediocre and extraordinarily over-priced. My first choice, as I was dining solo, was to take a seat at the bar. The bar was not up to the standard of a restaurant with these types of prices. The lighting was harsh fluorescent. There was a TV blaring in your face and a very loud dishwasher. I went to the restaurant side and asked for a table, the reception was frosty and snide. I was seated at an awkward table that seemed out of place in the midst of the dining room. While the service was friendly, the attention was spotty. The food would arrive but the drink I ordered for that course would come several minutes later. The $49 chicken with one carrot and three flavorless potatoes was not worth the price point. There was barely any reduction to speak of, making the chicken dry and dull. The dessert was a wild sugar bomb that made eating half of it a challenge. The whole experience made me feel that The Sage Room's best days are behind it now. In my opinion closing this disappointment of a restaurant would be the right move. One last thing to note, I wish I had read the reviews before I went, most of the reviews are precisely what I experienced, negative. I noticed that for all of the bad reviews the casino issues a canned statement that is copied and pasted. They say they will address these issues and they thank you for your review as it helps them improve. I can say that this is merely lip service, a lot of the issues raised by so many people that had a bad experience have not been addressed or remedied. It seems they don't care, I guess they still make their money and that's all...
