I have wide feet, so New Balance is my go-to shoe brand. Normally a trip to a NB store goes like this:
Me: “Hi! I have wide feet, and I’m an overweight runner, so I need some extra, like, cushioning. Also I underpronate.” NB Employee: “We actually only have one wide width shoe, and its a cross trainer, its not for overpronation specifically, but I’m sure it’ll be fine, what size are you?”
And so I’d buy the shoe, I thought that was just the best I could expect. Yesterday I visited NB in South Windsor CT, and was immediately greeted by Ryan McCarthy. I have NEVER had such an amazing experience buying shoes. He measured my feet, explaining how I fall between wide width and extra wide width so the choice between the two came down to personal preference. He used a machine to scan my feet which indicated I underpronate (I knew this) but then he spent the time to explain exactly what that meant, and how my feet work to combat that, and the types of issues that might result in, (which are issues I actually have), and what qualities I should look for in a shoe. He listened to me, he explained things clearly. He presented me with about 6 or 7 different shoes, some in various colors (omg choices?!!), that came in wide/doublewide and had the sort of support I specifically needed. SEVEN DIFFERENT SHOES! I’ve never had so much choice. And he patiently helped me try on each one, in wide and extra wide, recommended an insole, helped me try on each one with the insole. He talked me through how the shoes felt when I was wearing them, like when the heel felt like it was moving or the toe area felt boxy. He was incredibly friendly and informative. He didn't rush me at all. By the end I tried one on with an special insole and knew instantly THIS was the exact right fit. I’ve never felt that way walking out of a shoe store - its always been “I think these will be okay.” This time I got precisely what I needed. Thank...
Read moreIn 2014 I bought a pair of Postal Worker shoes, because I have a neuroma and need the wider toe box and these were absolutely perfect. 2 years later - I called and asked someone to set the same ones aside to replace the ones that were finally worn out. Came up from North Haven to pick them up. Stupid me, didn't give much thought to the look of them, and went only by how much better the fit was than the other shoes I wore to the store that day (also New Balance, but different style). Paid cash. Told them to keep the box, it'd just clutter my house. Got home, wore them Monday to work, the fit wasn't right but I chalked it up to being new and needing to break them in for a few days. Tossed the bag out with the trash pickup, including the receipt. Finally realized - they aren't the Postal Worker shoes. No wonder my feet were in such agony Monday! Called today - they have me on file from my 2014 purchase, and said they'd switch out the new incorrect pair out and have the correct ones delivered to my house since they don't have them in stock and would order them on my behalf. I just have to bring in the incorrect pair. I was SO upset - because the Postal Workers are the first pair of sneakers I've been able to wear on a daily basis and not come home in horrible pain, and I was worried I'd be out $250 just due to my own stupidity in throwing out a receipt on a cash purchase, and having to pay twice for one pair of shoes. Their customer service is outstanding at the Manchester store and while the pair I took home wasn't the pair I thought I was getting, they were terrific at making it right for me. 5 stars even though they set the wrong pair aside for me, because it was my responsibility as the customer to make sure I was getting what I was expecting, and they still...

I normally don't write reviews, but I do like to give credit where credit is due.
I have been wanting special fit sneakers for being on my feet on blacktop all day every day and decided to give New Balance a try.
On Monday night my 6 year old (highly active, very athletic) blew a hole in his cheap sneakers from a national box store. My wife just graduated and started a new career in the medical field: working on her feet all day long. So we decided tonight was the night we try New Balance.
We went in for what was originally going to be one pair of kid's sneakers and ended up getting 4 pair for a family of 4.
I wanted to try the foot scan and see what we come up with. Brandon was eager to help all four of us, kids were excited too. Store was clean, they had everything we wanted in stock, all of the staff were very friendly. Brandon listened to our concerns and what we were looking to address / accomplish with our purchase. Just an overall totally different shopping experience.
Today I'm wearing my new 880s with the orthodic inserts and the cushion in the sole is incredible!!
Thank you Mr. Disibio!! We have recommended you to our friends and family. We will also be back for any future...
