RESERVATION CANCELED BY VACASA 7 DAYS BEFORE CHECK-IN
We booked a 6 night rental through Vacasa at a property in Steamboat Springs, CO, Feb 20-26 2022. The unit is called Ptarmigan House 39, listing #38174. We booked this property well in advance, 6+ months prior to our stay.
7 days before our arrival we were informed by Vacasa that the owner of the property decided to kick us out and use the property for themselves. It being only 7 days before our arrival all similar properties in Steamboat Springs were rented out and the Steamboat area had no availability for similar sized rentals. Vacasa's website also showed no availably in the area. At this point, our 6-day family reunion vacation was in jeopardy, with nowhere for us to stay.
After frantically searching I was able to find another property on a local competitor's website. However, it being 7 days before our arrival, the new property was nearly 2x the cost of our original Vacasa rental. After much complaining and negotiating, Vacasa only offered to reimburse me for 1/2 of the difference between the two properties. I am now paying an extra $3,500 out of pocket for a reservation they were not able to fulfill.
BEWARE when renting Ptarmigan House 39 as the owner is willing to kick you out with very little notice. Vacasa policies in this situation do not protect their customer’s, they will not fully compensate you for your loss nor try to rectify a bad situation. Read moreWhile this property is in a great location, that is it's only redeeming quality. Do not be fooled by website photos which depict a bright space. The building was constructed in the 1970's and little if any updating has occurred. The unit is very poorly lit and ill equipped with dull knives and no cutting board. The kitchen utensils and pots seem as though the entire lot was purchased at a garage sale. See the below picture showing the filth under the sofa upon arrival. One would think that after stopping by the front desk twice to mention the lack of cleaning that housekeeping would correct this but they did not. Do not believe the description which states an en suite bathroom in what is considered the master bedroom - it opens to the living room. The plunger sitting next to the toilet upon arrival suggests an ongoing issue with that toilet - and there is definitely one in this unit. The toilet had to be plunged with each use and overflowed twice onto the floor. Maintenance came twice in one day to fix the toilet but could not. We were told a plumber would be called and the front desk would communicate with us regarding the plumber - we received no such communication. The shower curtains are old, disgusting and stained. What little light there is in the bathroom is blocked leaving one to shower in near dark. PLEASE, do not waste your money staying in Ptarmigan #10 - there are many, many...
