🛒🍰🥩 H-E-B: A Local Favorite with Big Flavors… and Even Bigger Red Flags 🥩🍰🛒
Let me start by saying—I love H-E-B. There’s no denying this Texas-born grocery giant offers a unique shopping experience you can’t get anywhere else. From the locally sourced products to the H-E-B exclusives you won’t find on any other shelf, the store delivers on flavor, quality, and variety. The bakery? Top-notch. The donuts are dangerously good, and the cakes? Not only tasty—they’re often mini masterpieces.
But—and this is a Texas-sized but—the customer service experience can be wildly hit or miss. Some team members are friendly, helpful, and make you feel right at home. Others? You’d swear they were doing you a favor by even making eye contact.
Case in point: Maria. Rude, dismissive, and confrontational like I interrupted her day by simply existing. Frankly, I am in total utter shock and disbelief that H-E-B has employed her and allowed this type of behavior to occur. And when I brought the issue to not one, but TWO managers? Their response was the definition of checked out! No urgency, no understanding, no basic customer service skills—let alone management-level professionalism. It’s hard to feel valued when leadership is just as uninterested as the problem employee.
Now let’s talk about the products:
🥩 I once picked up a beautiful ribeye steak priced around $12 and some change. Great deal, right? Until I got home and saw my receipt… almost $30 charged. I had to drive all the way back to get it fixed. Thankfully, they corrected the error, but that’s not a small mistake. Possibly a barcode mishap, but still—how often does this happen without people realizing?
🎂 As much as I love the single-serve slices of cake (they’re indulgent and just the right size), I’ve caught multiple instances where they were marked at the price of a full cake. That’s a pricey surprise if you’re not paying attention at checkout. How many people are getting overcharged and never know?
🧊 And here’s the real concern: expired cold items, especially in the lunchmeat section. I’ve seen it happen more than once. Nothing ruins a grocery trip like checking the date on your ham and realizing it should’ve been tossed days ago. For a store that prides itself on freshness, this should never be happening.
✨ On the bright side, the store is usually clean, organized, and easy to navigate. But when customer service, pricing accuracy, and product rotation all feel inconsistent—it leaves you wondering: What’s happening behind the scenes that we don’t see?
✅ Bottom line: H-E-B still offers great products and local charm—but make sure you check the dates, double-check your receipt, and don’t be afraid to speak up when things aren’t right. And H-E-B, if you’re reading this: it’s time to step up the training, clean up the communication, and make sure every customer walks out feeling taken care of—not taken...
Read moreNever have I had a bad experience at an HEB until today. I went to use the restroom and there was a lady mopping it — no closed sign on the door or anything - and I asked if I could use the restroom and she said it was going to be a minute so I proceeded to wait. She actually huffed, threw her mop against the wall, and then stomped towards me and held her arm out in a condescending manner and told me to “just go then” — so I did. And then discovered there was another employee actually using the bathroom at this time as well so apparently it was just me she had a problem with. Upon trying to exit she was standing at the doorway and had her cleaning cart blocking it so I had to push along side it to get out and she nastily/mockingly said “you’re welcome have a great day!” When I got out I immediately looked for a manager, fortunately there happened to be one right outside the restroom alcove. Unfortunately, he stood there wordlessly when I explained the bad attitude and anger from the employee in the bathroom and she stood there and sneered while I talked to him. The manager didn’t respond at all. And at this point I was frustrated enough to just walk away. The lack of surprise or response from the manager makes it seem like this behavior isn’t new to him. Thankfully, the cashier and bagger were friendly gentleman and had a great disposition and the only reason the entire visit wasn’t tainted. I’m honestly surprised to see so many good reviews here. Walking throughout the store was haphazordous as it seemed like there were more employees trying to stock or pull orders than there were customers shopping and you had to weave between them all because stoping in the middle of the aisle with a pallet jack to converse with a peer seems to be standard practice from what I witnessed. Ridiculous. I’ll stick to the one by my house. I had expected better from this location. Was super...
Read moreThe only reason I give this review is because of the way my mother was treated at the pharmacy. This review doesn’t reflect on anything else from the store. The service in this HEB is usually incredible but today I was disappointed. My mom went through the drive through to pick up her medications and when she was given one that she didn’t understand she asked the pharmacist what it was for and instead of patiently explaining he answered in a very rude manner . She then after thinking it over and reading the side effects chose to go inside to return it because the side effects scared her. The pharmacist told her she couldn’t return the medication because it could’ve been tampered with. And my mother and I completely understand the rule and that’s not what bothered us, but while she was inside trying to find a different one he treated her horribly. She would speak to him and he would walk away and leave her talking to herself and she didn’t her question answered until 5-10 minutes after by another pharmacist. At the end she told him that she was hurt by how he was treating her the entire time and he apologized for “snapping at her”. This shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place and it’s upsetting. My mom is very kind and patient so there was no need for her to be treated the way she did. And there shouldn’t have been an apology to begin with because I know from experience from my own job that you are always respectful and kind to your customers. I hope this is addressed with the pharmacy. Otherwise I do love this HEB and would give it the fiver stars for everything else. Again this review doesn’t reflect my overall opinion on the store, just...
