Bass Pro Shops, formerly known as Cabela's, has a huge selection of stuff for pretty much any segment of the outdoor industry. Product selection is generally good and the employees have always been very helpful.
Whether you need camping gear, hunting gear, water sports gear, dehydrators, vacuum sealers, firearms, archery equipment are pretty much anything else you can think of they have you covered. They also have a pretty good selection of clothing and footwear (though Sportsman's Warehouse, owned by the same company as Bass Pro shops, has a better selection of footwear)
Check out here are normally staffed decently, so you can get through the checkout line quickly. They also sell many different kinds of passes and licenses, from hunting and fishing to yearly state park passes and lots more. Northwest forest passes are also available at REI one exit down, and Oregon snow park permits are available at Dick's sporting goods one exit down. Cabela's used to not carry these, which is why I'm mentioning these other places as an option.
Great American Outdoor Group (the parent company for both Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's) recently rebranded this store as well as pretty much every other Cabela's location as Bass Pro Shops. I'm a little bit bummed about that, even though they're the same store there's an element of brand loyalty involved. I've been shopping at Cabela's for 11 years since they first opened in 2014, but I've not shopped at Bass Pro Shops anywhere outside of Las Vegas. So, it's a little odd going in here and seeing the Bass Pro Shops name. Especially since Oregon isn't a hotbed for bass fishing. That said, it's the same employees here in the same product selection.
Overall though, this is still a great store. They have a large selection of things like permethrin, which is harder to find at a lot of places. They also have bottles and cans of this in larger quantities than most places. They also have a great selection of deet, if you're looking for an insect repellent and the like they have you covered. They also have the large jetboil stove fuel canisters, as well as several other brands of similar fuel that work with jetpoil stoves. Most stores only stock the small canisters, so it's awesome they have this.
They also have a fairly good selection of bear spray, though as of mid-may 2025 your best prices for bear spray are going to be at Costco (or they have a two cans for the price of one deal going on for UDAP).
The quality on some of their house brand clothing seems to have gone down a little bit, specifically Redhead and their house branded sleeping bags. Their house branded sleeping bags have attended to tear out at the zipper due to poor stitching. If you're looking for a warm flannel sleeping bag, you're better off going to Sportsman's Warehouse. Their house branded sleeping bags come from a different manufacturer, and they don't have The zipper problem that Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's bags have.
Overall, it's a typical Big Box store but for outdoor gear instead of the standard fair. This store has good selection, okay prices and generally friendly employees. I've been shopping here for 11 years and I will continue to do so, even though it's a little odd with the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you purchased a firearm online, it might look like your order was cancelled but it really wasnāt! I upgraded my review after finding out what happened BUT the horror story continues and so back to one star. My brand new gun had a big scuff running down the side. You donāt notice it unless itās in the right light. Contacted the store and as before nobody answers. I think itāll still function properly and I donāt want to deal with them ever again. So Iām keeping my damaged brand new $500 gun⦠thanks Cabelaās.
Below is my original review but it turned out the store was trying to be nice while our government delays gun purchases. Tualatin Cabelaās will refund money until a gun is picked up if itās going to take a long time and you canāt get ahold of anyone to find out what happened.
Donāt make the same mistake I did - I ordered online for pickup in store. It took weeks to get there. When it finally did arrive, I went in to the store I got lucky to not have to wait hours to talk to someone. Most people had to wait in the lobby for hours! They even had a little auditorium setup for them to wait!!!
Even still, the process to fill out the paperwork took a long time. The employee was nice so I didnāt mind. I wasnāt auto approved by the system. I was told it would be an unknown amount of time but theyād call when it was ready. I never got a call and saw a refund via email. I called the store gun counter and nobody answered. I called the main operator and nobody answered. I tried again, still no luck.
Well since I ordered online I called THEM. They couldnāt tell me what happened but they tried calling the store and nobody answered them either!! So they sent an email to the manager. The manager didnāt respond⦠I heard that from their online CS when I followed up. At this point I guess Iām not getting the gun I spent 6+ hours trying to buy. Had to front the $500 on my credit card. Had to eat the $10 background check fee (I guess). Have a mark on my gun record. So now when I go to buy it somewhere else, the fascists will say āhey this guy is trying to buy a bunch of guns - red flagā
So basically it looked like they sold me something, made me wait weeks, then hours in person. Cancelled it with no explanation and will not answer customer phone calls or their own online customer service.
It turned out it was okay though. Weāll see how the rest of it goes⦠if the government will let me purchase something I need for my self defense in this otherwise...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered a rifle online and paid in full. I received an email, it said it has arrived and to come into the store. After taking time off work and driving over an hour to pick it up they said they arenāt taking applications for the rest of the day. They said you have to get here well before they open because they are only take a select number of people. I get that itās weird timing because of the new measure and I know itās not Cabelaās fault but you could of at least explained that in the email you sent before somebody completely inconvenienced them selves to come all the way out to Tualitan. They are managing their firearm sales very poorly compared to other sporting goods stores.
Update I arrived to the store at 5am(2 hours before they open). After waiting two hours they said if you donāt usually get approved same day for firearm purchases then your background check will get voided after today. Once again Cabelaās, COMMUNICATION! Explain that to me when you turned me away and told me to show up early in the morning last time. I am blown away how this store is managing there firearm sales with this new measure. It is truly a circus compared to other stores.
2nd update I heard that there has been a vault out on measure 114 and gun sales will continue. I called Cabelaās to see if we can now do the background check for the gun I purchased. They said they are giving an extra 30 days for those that are still in the queue but they arenāt taking any new apps. But when we showed up 2 hours before they opened and waited in the freezing cold they said if you donāt normally get approved same day your background check will get voidedā. So we didnāt wait another 6 hours until it was our turn to fill out a background check for it to just get voided. Every time I talk to this store Iām absolutely blown away how they are managing this situation. I finally just got a refund, itās not worth it. I have wasted so much time and gas money on this store and they have offered nothing to...
