La Sen Vietnamese Grill — Restaurant in Tualatin

The food here is ok. Nothing special but it wasn't horrible. I would return and eat here again if it weren't for my experience with the bill. We recently had dinner at the Tualatin location and when I went to pay for the bill, we had it split in half between the two families. When she handed me the device to pay, it was on the screen asking for gratuity. I thought the bill seemed a little high, but I also didn't pay attention to the prices on the menu so I just thought they were expensive. Nonetheless, it was obvious that I was caught off guard and I asked to see the receipt. She told me should print it up when we're were done with paying.

So I selected the gratuity, signed, and it was paid. After the bill was paid by both families, she printed up the receipt for me, and I glanced it over and realized that the bill already included an18% gratuity. When I told her that I didn't know she already included gratuity, she said sorry, she could not change anything because the cards were charged already. I feel like we were totally taken advantage of because the server could've had the courtesy to let us know that the gratuity was already included. Especially when she noticed we were questioning and adding for a copy of the receipt.

The food and service were average at best, until we were slighted with our bill. Definitely not worth the DOUBLE gratuity.

We ordered a few dishes to go and they messed up 2 of them and they had to remake them and then forgot the sauce for the grilled dishes. The quality, taste and portions were all just plain bad. I got the Pho dish and am extemerly dissapointed with their quality. The broth tasted like it was instant broth made with ramen noodles and they were super skimpy on the toppings with 1/4 of a jalepeno, literally 3 pieces of basil leaves with thinly sliced pieces of scallions like OMG! The chicken also had a funky smell so it wasn't very appetizing at all. My friend had got the grilled shrimp dish since she only eats seafood and they gave her an eggroll on the side stuffed with pork... sigh which she cant eat for religious reasons and ruined her entire meal. This rating is not for the pho. I did npt try it because it seeemed to lack variety of pho options I am used it. We choose it because it was the closest to us when the kids needed a break from being in the car. I was impressed though by the flavor of the two noodle soups we got. I got the sweet and sour seafood. It was very nice in flavor. I enjoyed it quite a lot and very large portions. The flavor was unique. Maybe a fusion of sorts. My husband had the duck noodle with Chinese 5 spice. It was really tasty and the spice definitely a great combo with the duck. Really not like anything we had before. The service was great.
