My experience at Petco was both appalling and deeply distressing for my child. We purchased a guinea pig from their store, and I was assured that if we encountered any health issues with our new pet, their in-house veterinarian would be available to help. Unfortunately, just a few days later, we noticed that the guinea pig was barely eating, prompting us to seek assistance from the store's veterinarian.
To our dismay, upon arrival at Petco, we were informed that their veterinarian was only qualified to administer immunizations for cats and dogs and was unable to provide any assistance for our guinea pig. Instead, they handed me a list of other Vetco clinics but couldn't even confirm which of these clinics could actually help with guinea pig care. They suggested that I call each clinic individually to find out.
I proceeded to call every clinic on the list that was within an hour's drive, only to discover that none of them provided care for guinea pigs. They merely recommended that I contact VEG. When I called VEG, they confirmed that they could help, so we made our way there. Regrettably, the time spent at Petco, making numerous phone calls to various clinics, and traveling to VEG proved extremely stressful for our guinea pig. Its condition rapidly deteriorated to a critical state, rendering it impossible to save. In the end, we were left with no choice but to euthanize our beloved pet.
This harrowing experience with Petco has been emotionally traumatizing for my family and financially burdensome for me. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Petco to anyone, as they have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the well-being of their customers...
Read moreI took my dog into Petco twice to get her nails cut and it was the worst mistake i've made. The first time, the lady who actually cuts the nails is extremely rude, which, I ignored and assumed she was having a bad day. However, I noticed the first time, there was TONS of pet hair all over the place, including nail clippings and other things. I didnt think too much in to it and so I brought my dog in a second time and it was the exact same thing. The worst place to take your pet. If you love your animal, PLEASE, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO PETCO! The second time I took my dog in, there was the hair all over the place and no cleaning involved at all. That same day, my dog ended up getting an infection between her paws for the second time right after bringing her to this nasty, disgusting place. Because the lazy people who work in grooming do NOT clean inside or even wipe down the tables, caused my dog bad bacteria infections that I had to take her to the vet because of her paws being swollen. Now, this is only for the grooming side. The rest of the store is okay. Please, do not go to grooming. I will never bring my pet inside here again. Lastly, the lady who cuts the nails, bent my dogs paws in awkward positions and seemed to not care about animals at all. I informed the lady that my dog had bad anxiety with leashes around the neck and she completely ignored me and put it around my dog anyways. My dog was shaking for an hour after that. I understand its important to secure the dog, however, there was no need to be this way and treat my dog in a inappropriate manner. The lady is definitely lucky that I didnt punch her in the face....
Read more9/12/2024 Yesterday afternoon, I bought three saltwater fish called Damselfish. Unfortunately, I did not inspect their physical condition before placing them in the tank. I took some photos of them while still in the bag. Once they were in the tank, I began filming and noticed an issue with one of the new fish. Its tail was broken and discolored, with a red spot on one side. Alarmed, I recognized these as signs of a disease. I already have eight healthy fish in my 40-gallon saltwater tank, so I immediately removed the affected fish and quarantined it.
This morning, I called Petco and spoke with Jose, their "aquatic specialist," explaining the situation. The fish is still alive and okay, but I requested an exchange since I don't want this disease to spread to my healthy fish. Jose informed me of their company policy, which does not allow returns or exchanges for saltwater fish. I argued that they sold me a fish with defects and potentially a disease, which could have contaminated my entire tank if I hadn't noticed it in time. I further explained that it had been less than 24 hours since I bought the fish, and it was already nighttime when I discovered the fish's condition. He told me I could bring the fish to the store and donate if I didn't have space for it, but they could not offer an exchange.
Lesson learned: I will not trust this particular store with live fish again. They should not be selling fish with...
