Archetype Distillery — Local services in Vail

If you haven't had the chance to check out Archetype Distillery — do it.

As somebody from the distilling industry, I always try to visit a distillery while I'm on vacation.  After seeing Archetype's vodka & gin picking up awards at major tasting competitions, I knew they'd be the perfect stop.

We visited their Vail tasting room for a cocktail class — an activity I highly recommend.  Not only was the class a lot of fun, but it was also a great value.  It included a sampling flight, three cocktails & an hour of entertainment.  Michael is clearly passionate about the spirits he makes & the drinks they craft.  Whether you're a foodie or somebody who just loves a great cocktail, you'll enjoy the class.

What I found particularly unique about Archetype's tasting room is their wide offering of house-made distillates/spirits.  They don't need a back bar full of brands that you see everywhere.  Instead, they're able to craft a custom cocktail based on the flavors you enjoy.  From familiar flavors like espresso or citrus to unique ones like blue cheese & truffles, you have the opportunity to find your own signature drink.  I tried several unique combinations & all were delicious!

In short — from somebody who's been to a lot of distilleries — make the time to check out Archetype.  The atmosphere was fantastic.  The drinks were delicious.  Their spirits win awards for a reason. You're sure to have a...

Purchased a cocktail glass a couple months in advance as my family was coming into town and we had a trip to Vail planned. We were excited. Paid a deposit and give them my details….prompt online said someone would reach out to confirm and give more details. Never heard from anyone.

I sent a follow up message a couple weeks later via their website - no response.

I called and got a hold of someone. “Hey I’d like to confirm my cocktail glass.” Bartender: “Oh, sorry, I don’t have that information in front of me right now, is this a good number to call you back?” Never heard from them. Called back again during their open hours - no one answered.

Sent another follow up message on their website - no response.

Disputed the charge with my bank - the bank never even got a response from them.

Who runs a business like this?

Makes sense why it is was dead empty every time we walked by the week we were in Vail. Gave our money to 10th Mountain....

Amazing spirits, and amazing people. Wade and Michael will make you feel like old friends as you enjoy some of the best vodka and gins you've ever had.

If you savvy yourself a bourbon or whiskey drinker only, please don't hesitate to check this place out. They're smoked vodka is something I've never had before. If an old-fashioned is up your alley, give them a chance to prove to you how good a smoked vodka based cocktail can be.

No hyperbole, I've never had a smoother vodka in my life. Take what you know about harsh or super sweet vodkas and throw it out the window.
