Worst Vail experience ever. One of our friends recommended & wanted to give a try. We had our dog & wanted to call & make sure they have seating available on the patio. Staff said they do have walkings available. We showed up at 5.54pm & they put us on the waitlist. We were waiting till 7.02 as we went in, one of the staff guided us to the table on the patio. Once we sat down. The manager came & start talking to us"You cant sit here, we have a group who has reservation for this table" & that was a very rude tone. From that point we felt like we wern’t welcome here. Then we stood up & got ready to leave. Then she figured we sat down at the right table. We felt embarrassed in front of other people. Then we got our sever. I asked him about his recommendation & he wasnt helpful at all. He had this vibe he doesn't wanna serve us at all. There's no any eye contact at all( entire time he was talking to us he was looking at the table next to us)we had a feeling that he's not well trained or racist. Then we asked can we get some water for our dog & the water was full of dirt. I wouldn’t give that water to my dog. That was horrible. He asked me do I want another round of cocktail. I said no just because of the way he asked me. I never felt this way at any other restaurant in my life. He was upset when I said no. Then he asked how's the food. I said food was great. After that's he was like I can bring you the desert menu if you want. I have never heard anyone talk to a guest like that. Since I wanted to try dessert I said yes. I was expecting to get his recommendation on desserts. Then he came to the table & throw the desert menu & start talking to the table next to us with the new server he was training. We all looked at each other & said NO we don't wana spend a single minute here. We talked to the server who he was training that we wanna talk to a manager. That was the same lady who told us to leave the table. I said I would like to talk to their GM. He was a very nice gentleman we talked to him & explained our experience. We told him that we won't be back. He was nice & gave us a discount. I told him I will pay full price. We are here to have a good time. We didn't complain expecting a discount. Again u can have the best chef in the world & one bad server can ruin everything. After we talking to him we left the place. Being racist & rude to your guest Is not acceptable at all. Whoever own this place need to train him or fire him. I would never type this long if I'm not upset. Again we love the food not...
Read moreWe were able to get in for a party of 2 at 5pm without a reservation, although I recommend making a reservation (they typically book out of reservations as soon as they come online 30 days ahead of time). The restaurant is dim light, lively, and bustling. We were seated next to the window overlooking the creek running through Vail Village. Our server was very social and attentive, striking up conversation while continually checking on our table.
Unpearable: The best pear drink we've had, wow this was so good, cannot say it enough, have to try it! Light, refreshing, a little tart, a little sweet, peary, perfect!
Grilled Sea Scallops: Can't describe the flavors, but it was comforting and sophisticated. Our favorite dish, and the sea scallops were cooked perfectly.
Pork Cheek Poutine: Not your typical poutine, this tastes much better! The potato is more of a hash brown at the base, with pork, cheese curds, and the sauce cooked on top. The hash brown was crispy, and better than any poutine I've had in Canada!
Kampachi Crudo: The fish tasted fresh, there was no fishy, salty taste to it. The flavors complemented it nicely, with a little bit of citrus too.
Rotisserie Chicken Salad: Delicious! They load it with chicken that is flavorful and juicy. Seriously, they don't skimp on the chicken in this dish. The dressing is less fishy than a Caesar salad, and the ingredients complement one another.
Glazed Mahi Mahi: It was good, but compared to other dishes our least favorite. It was missing a crisp to the cooked fish, but the sushi rice tots were crispy, warm, soft on the inside, and some of the best we've had.
'Standard' Slice of Blueberry Pie: Anything but standard, the best slice I've ever had! Small wild berries, and it's not overly sweet, and kinda light. I would have ordered 10 of these. Ruined blueberry pie for me.
Snickers Ice Cream Bar: Get the blueberry pie. Normally a chocolate guy, and nothing wrong with it, but it's about what you'd expect, and the pie is better in my opinion.
Overall, the food, service, and setting was amazing! A great experience and we will be back if we're...
Read moreWe had the dissatisfaction of eating lunch at Mountain Standard on Friday, 5/26/23. We will never do this again. Based on previous experiences at this restaurant, we were aware that some of the menu items are rather spicy (hot). Nevertheless, as it had been several years since we last ate here, we decided that we would give it another chance. This was a mistake. Although we clearly expressed our concerns about our previous experiences to our server, she did not provide the necessary guidance for us to order food which we could eat.
We started out with the onion rings, which were so spicy that my tongue and lips were still burning over an hour later despite drinking two glasses of water. Neither of my kids (20 and 15) could eat them either. When I mentioned this to our server, she acknowledged that they have "a kick". Mind you, this was after we told her that we did not want spicy food. I had the Lamb Gyro, which was pretty good as long as I avoided the sauce. My son, on the other hand, had the Turkey Club and couldn't even eat half of it due to how spicy it was prepared (not mentioned in the menu or by our server). My daughter had a chicken salad, which was ironically not particularly flavorful, but probably the best of our meals.
When it came time for our check, it was quite obvious that we had not enjoyed our food based on how much we left. When I mentioned to our server that almost everything was too spicy, she laughed and said that she should have told the kitchen "no spices". She did not really apologize or seem at all concerned, however.
I paid the $124.72 bill and even tipped 20%, as this is common courtesy and was shared by the staff. However, we were very displeased with both the food and service. I attempted to contact the manager and owner the day of our visit, but still have not heard anything back over a week later. Based on our experience, I can only conclude that they don't want to hear complaints and simply don't care about their customers. Too bad. Not sure why this restaurant gets such good reviews,...
