Went with my friend and immediately found three items I wanted to purchase, and her, two. They were smaller items we were looking at, not the larger pieces worth thousands of dollars, but nonetheless we were real customers. I was shown the first two items I was interested in and had them set aside as I kept perusing. When I asked to see an item in an enclosed cabinet the owner said ‘we are just really busy today to be showing you things. Come back on a Sunday when we’re not busy if you want to see that.’ I was taken back by that response but didn’t insist. I paid for the two items I had already set aside, actually made the purchases like a real customer not just someone looking around passing by time, then walked over to my friend. She asked to see two items, a little pricier than what I was looking at, worth a couple hundred dollars each. The other owner looked at her and said ‘I don’t think you can actually afford to buy that so I’m not going to take it out of the enclosed cabinet to show you.’ We were shocked. I had just made a purchase and she was ready to make one too. My friend insists to see the items since they were so disrespectful to her and she demanded to be treated as a customer like everyone else in the store. They sighed and showed them to her. She sends photos to her husband since she wanted to get the set for the two of them, but he didn’t like them as much so she decided not to get them and we left. They weren’t even that busy, under ten people in the store and they only had the first floor open so everyone was in their line of sight. We were not in a rush and didn’t mind waiting to be assisted while they cared for other customers, but the disregard they had for us when we were serious buyers rubbed us off the wrong way. I would like to first thank, Brian, with L'Enfant Galerie for a fantastic new customer experience last week in delivering an antique piece to my residence! I also appreciate the warm welcome from Ron, and enjoyed our conversations in which both he and Brian were attentive to my design tastes and love of gothic/horror. One can easily feel transported in this magnificent gallery with 3-4 floors, and especially if you're attuned to old world nostalgia. I was drawn to an antique Chinese dragon unbeknownst to either Brian or Ron and was redirected to the piece after they learned more about my fondness of grotesques and mythical creatures, so I knew it was "roaring" my name (lol). I advised them that I was on foot and needed to get my car and coordinate a pick-up. If you're familiar with this area of Wisconsin Ave, parking is no easy feat. Brian then offered to bring the dragon to me which was extremely considerate as it wasn't very large but robust in weight. As someone who grew up with a parent who owned a small business, and taught me the essentials of superior customer service, I am keen to acknowledge when I receive it -- this gallery delivers with exceptional warmth and hospitality for all who enter (at least in my experience)!
