We were visiting from Florida for one day. I wanted postcards representing the city & stickers for our RV after touring places around the city. One museum store didn't have these so they recommended The Workroom (cool name). It's a large store (with more than 1 room) with all kinds of gift items. I found what I was looking for & checked out with a nice young woman. However, the total for my @7 items seemed too high. I left my glasses in the car so I went out to check the receipt. I returned & told the cashier I was double-charged or overcharged for some items. She stated, no, the items I purchased are charged higher from local artists. My problem with this was the postcards on the rack were clearly marked $1/piece. The stickers on the table were clearly marked $3/piece. But at checkout I'm charged $3/postcard and $4/stickers! I could've demanded I be charged what's marked in store, but I didn't. The cashier did offer to refund my money but I said no, it's going to the artists, forget it. Even though I thanked her & left, I was irritated. I personally find this happens way too often in high-end/local-artist-type stores where they charge what they want at check-out. I guess I need to get into a new practice of asking at checkout before I whip out my CC for...
Read moreThis place definitely caters to Wichita diehards, with Wichita symbols featured on everything from magnets to Yeti thermoses, but there’s also interesting handmade and crafted things around that have little or even nothing to do with Wichita. I particularly enjoyed the handmade stuffies and regret not buying one I had my eye on. There’s also a really cool section of items that honor Black culture, and that was wonderful. There are also LOTS of little hand painted frames around (really beautiful), larger original art pieces on the walls, and very intriguing prints. And there’s a clearance area in the back with damaged or old items, which was interesting to look through. I only wish there was a little more signage indicating the origin of some things or info on their designers; like, some things were obviously made in Kansas (honey, etc.) but other items had stickers covering the “Made In” information, which was sus for a spot that advertises as a place to peruse local products. Anyway, I would come back for the stuffies and tiny...
Read moreWichita’s finest gift shop of local artists and creators, at the corner of Cleveland and 1st Street North. Here is a huge array of art and collectibles that represents the heart of ICT. From a great selection of Wichita flag items, to local photography and art of the city, to so much more to explore, this is always a spot worth visiting. I especially like it being so close to The Spice Merchant, so that I can visit two of the town’s treasures back to back. My family and I have found many great items at The Workroom for our home and gifts to others, and have received some of the highest level of service from the staff and even from the artists themselves. I give this place my highest...
