Yesterday our 4 and 5th graders played at this facility. This was the worst experience ever. Their referees seemingly favor their local teams or teams they are familiar with over others.
During the second game, they issued a technical foul against a 4th grader for yelling back at their parent asking them to stop yelling at them during the game. Although they didn't know the mother was also the child's former coach/parent, they knew this was personal and unrelated to the game, nor against her team or the opponents. No warning or anything. Just issued a technical foul while she was already visibly upset, crying, and walking to her coach requesting to be taken out. Which proves she knew her actions were in appropriate and she needed a break. Where was the grace?
The third/championship game two other referees issued 3 techical fouls against two of our players. One was against my daughter who rarely fouls anybody and helps her opponents up after fouling them. According to my daughter and a bystander, an opponent came from behind and knocked the ball out of her hand, but the referee accused her of throwing the ball. Initially the opponents were far behind but the two technical fouls allowed them to caught up. The 3rd tech was given while the game was tied and at the end of the game allowing their opponents to win by two; ending score was 21-19.
These girls have never experienced such bias treatment. Losing is a part of the game, but bad officiating negatively impacts the children's confidence and self-esteem. This was not okay. We did not travel out of state to be mistreated. However, they have other reviews with the same complaints, yet the facility has...
Read moreThe following is from a coach from one of our teams this past weekend. I appreciate his kind words and acknowledge that officiating is not easy, and we are doing a lot of work to raise the quality of officiating on our games. Thank you for the kind words! Mike Murphy General Manager Hi,
My team played in both tournaments on Friday and Saturday this past weekend, and overall, the refereeing is usually good when playing at your tournaments, in my experience as a player and coach. I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the two referees we had at our 8 am game on Saturday on the Moosejaw/Kalahari court. They did an outstanding job throughout the entire game. They had very clear and constant communication with players and coaches, they were consistent, and they were a great presence on the court in a very tight and exciting game.
I know officiating can be a tough and thankless job, but I think they have really stood out for their professionalism and fairness, and I wanted to make sure that didn't go unnoticed. That honestly was one of the best, if not the best, officiated games I can recall being a part of. I don't recall their names, but please pass along our appreciation if you're able to, and know that their work didn't go...
Read moreGreat venue. Really nice experience for kids to see Wisconsin BB history. However, BEWARE when a tournament at JustAGame is listed as "SCHOOL TEAMS ONLY." I've been there for about a dozen weekends, and not once have we seen a true "School Team." You will be playing all-star, AAU, and combined teams. Just know that going in. If you're the coach of a true school team looking for a competitive experience for your players, this is not the venue. Clearly no one is actually checking the validity of teams that register. Once I found out the three teams in our bracket, with 7-10 minutes on Google., I could find evidence that these were all combined all-star type teams. Look elsewhere if you're not an AAU or all-star team. And, as far as the officials go, which many have commented about on here, we actually found 5 of our 6 officials to be very good during our last tournament at JustAGame. So, one star for the venue, one star for the officials, but three no-stars for the false advertising that SCHOOL TEAMS ONLY...
