Sand Bar — Restaurant in Wisconsin Dells

Friendly local bar. Good prices for drinks. Regular bar food. Has a cute patio. Really enjoyed chatting with locals on the patio. Street parking is metered, but you don't have to pay after 9pm.

Update: We went for Friday Fish Fry. There were several tables of locals eating fish fry options when we arrived around 6:30. Several more tables filled around us and on the patio over the next couple of hours.

The fried shrimp basket looked good, so we both went with that. You can get the shrimp 3 different ways. We opted for coconut shrimp. It came with around 10 jumbo shrimp, fries, garlic toast and slaw for $13.99.

The slaw was basic mayo based with a hint of sweet. The garlic toast was made with texas toast. The fries were seasoned well. The Shrimp were large and butterflied with ample coconut in the crunchy batter. The dipping sauce a bit sweet/tangy, which complimented the shrimp well. It was a large portion that we could not finish. Actually, there were alot of to-go boxes requested.

A few people played bar games. A couple played a round of pool. We spent part of our time on the patio, as it was a beautiful evening. Can't even review the food because we literally couldn't get that far. Came in for our anniversary dinner and to watch the game. Got there an hr early to make sure we got a seat. Wasn't sure how service worked, saw employees walking around to tables. After sitting there for 15mins with no one acknowledging us we figured we had to order at the bar, no big deal we arent fancy people we don't need much just looking for good food. When ordering at the bar we double checked they were still doing food since they had an event upstairs, tell us the kitchen is open and someone will be around shortly. We finish our beers over 20 mins, see staff walking around really not doing anything but also not acknowledging us. Again no big deal, we decide maybe we should just order at the bar. My boyfriend walked up, had 2 guys walk up behind him while waiting, and then the bartender started pointing to guys behind him to take their orders. I’ve been going to Wisconsin dells and visiting for a while now because I live in Madison. I go up there a lot of times to walk downtown and go to the resorts. I always wanted to try the sand bar and one day my girlfriend and I did. I went in there and one of the workers walked right by me looked at me with anger and didn’t greet me. I sat down at a table and one of the bartenders came over and looked like she didn’t wanna be here. Asked us what we wanted, I got a spotted cow and a double vodka lemonade along with cheese curds. I said Thankyou and She didn’t say anything. Was rude as you could see on her facial expressions. The spotted cow was fine, but the double vodka lemonade tasted like there was no vodka in it at all. Rude service I’m guessing because we’re not locals. Cheese curds had too much bread on it. Overall the service was poor and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is a tourist.
