Such magnificent croissants! One could say that Lune has best croissants in Australia, but this does not convey the superb quality possessed by the croissants sold by this establishment. Its truly astonishing how this feat was achieved here. Some have graded the croissants sold here as 11/10, but I believe traditional numeric grading system can not be applied here. We need a new metric to describe this phenomenal discovery. Perhaps instead of a numeric grade we could use a word that accurately illustrates the existence of these croissants. Thus, I shall bestow grade of āMajesticā upon croissants sold here at Luna.
Anyone reading this review thus far would be perplexed why I have given this establishment a 2-star review. This is a good question one that I shall reveal to you as a great warning! When you enter this establishment, you do not look at the coffee and you do not point at the coffee. I unfortunately purchased a coffee! I will attempt to recount the events the moment I took the first and last sip of this coffee. It is not theoretically possible to describe the taste, however I can illustrate the feeling one would succumb to from drinking single sip of this coffee in two wordsā¦...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe famous Lune from Melbourne has opened a branch in Brisbane! I was curious to see if the taste holds up (since branch locations often fall short). I visited the one in Brisbane CBD. The store has a similar minimalist industrial style, and thereās already a queue forming early in the morning.
My friend insisted on getting the croffin, which I personally wouldnāt recommend. We also tried a savoury one (chives + cheese) and my friendās favourite, the almond croissant.
The savoury croissant was a bit too heavy and greasy for my liking, and the chives flavour was overpowering. The lemon curd croffin was both sour and sweet, with a texture somewhere between soft and crispy ā not particularly impressive to me.
As for the almond croissant, the outer layers were just as perfect as I remembered ā crispy, flaky, and beautifully layered. No wonder this is still one of my top picks from Lune. The filling is on the sweeter side though, so I wouldnāt recommend it for anyone who doesnāt enjoy very sweet pastries.
Somehow, I still feel like Lune in Melbourne tastes more refined...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTried the original Lune in Melbourne years ago, thought they has one of the best ham n gruyere croissants, along with a few innovative flavours. Melbourne CBD store continued that fine trend but I havenāt been for years due to the long queue, itās good but not worth the time to queue.
I was curious to see in the branch in Brisbane is as good as the ones in Melbourne. The short answer is, itās not even close. The price has gone up (which is understandable) but the size has shrunken. They didnāt offer to warm up/ toast the savoury croissants which was the first negative esp if you want yo eat it there and then. We brought it home and warmed them up in our oven.
The ham n gruyere croissant was average at best, croissant itself wasnāt buttery and flakey, and could barely tasted the gruyere. Mushroom and blue cheese croissant was slightly better, at least there was blue cheese taste but the pastry itself was again mediocre.
The only upside of this visit was, at 9am in the morning there was only a short queue of three people in front of me.
