Great food… really poor attitude! I’ve been here twice lately for brunch and lunch. It’s obviously a very popular cafe as lots of people were coming and going. The food was really delicious and presented beautifully. The decor is modern and very open. So be sure to take a jacket or wear something warm at this time of year, as you feel the full effects of the outside temperature.
The service is good however the attitude of the staff was disappointing. The first visit was for a special occasion birthday and I made an advanced booking. I was told due to it being busy we’d only have an hour and a half for the table. That’s understandable. However, after an hour of dining and finishing our main meal we were asked if we could leave to accomodate others wanting to dine. I advised that we’d only been here an hour and hadn’t finished our experience… and really wanted to sit and enjoy coffees. We were asked to move to a high stool area at the window instead, as a compromise. It was raining and stormy and as we got up to move we felt the rain blowing in on that area. We advised them it was wet there and that we didn’t want to move… and wanted to stay for our coffees at our original table and complete our experience. Too late. People were being immediately seated there. So we asked if we could please have a different table, as we weren’t finished dining. We were told that if we didn’t want to sit at the window there were no other options, and we had no alternative but to leave. We voiced our disappointment and the fact that we’d only been there an hour, and it was booked especially for a birthday. The staff member mentioned she couldn’t do anything about it as the owner was there. And it was clear she felt intimidated by that. She really had no interest in in us customers or our experience.
Because everything else was lovely I had hoped it had just been a once off bad experience and decided to come back again. The second occasion I brought my mum and son. It was a really cold winters day. We were seated directly under the air conditioner, blowing cold air for some reason. My son had a bad back and was freezing. The hard timber chair was very uncomfortable for him. As was the cold air straight down his back. We were all uncomfortably cold sitting there. We asked politely if we could move tables because of my son’s back and the cold air, as there were several free tables, and one had a big cushion across a bench. We were told we couldn’t move. No explanations why not, and in the time that we were there, the table we had wanted to move to never got used. Perhaps because we had already ordered it was too inconvenient for the staff to coordinate the tables. But a simple gesture to accommodate us would have made a huge difference and gained much different reviews. I felt the staff were very inconsiderate and unaccommodating and don’t really care about their patrons. Only the $$. Will I go back? Not sure. Probably not. For me… attitude and service comes first. Without it, it really doesn’t matter how good the food is. In business, if you look after your customers well, the rest...
Read moreI was really underwhelmed and disappointed with this cafe, service was lacking and coffee was average, went cold easily and was nothing special. Unfortunately the cafe does not substitute items for dietary requirements. The cafe was very open and clean but it is hard to hold a conversation as it can become really loud.
The store owner greeted me without a smile and gave me a seat at the end of a long bench. There was plenty of other seating which I would have preferred as I was needing a table for two.
The staff continually walk around and it was very unsettling and off putting. Such a shame as it made the cafe seem busy and overwhelming, even though the design and aesthetic of the cafe looks great. Even though staff were around, it was hard to get their attention when needing to order. Customer service wasn't great either, staff weren't very friendly about catering to vegan options and seemed annoyed by it. The attitude of the staff was far from friendly and needs improvement.
I had the avocado toast and can be made vegan without the egg. Was very fresh and delicious, herbs and spices were a great touch. Squeezing the lime on top can make the flavours a bit too much. I added a side of hash brown, was quite crisp but it was nothing outstanding and tasted similar to one from McDonalds. The coconut latte on soy was superb and had a rich taste.
Overall, whilst there were some stand out meals my whole experience was disappointing and I was not relaxed or comfortable in the cafe. I would save my money and...
Read moreWhat a lovely cafe. Great atmosphere and even better service! It was pretty busy on a Monday morning. I arrived at around 9:20am and inside was pretty full, I was seated at a table in the middle but found it too loud for my liking so I asked to be moved outside which the waitress happily obliged to.
Our server was very attentive and kind, always refilling our water when it got low and grabbed our empty plates when we're done. Our drinks came out super fast, props to the staff making them.
I ordered the Mamuffin which was delicious. I found it to be very filling, I didn't eat again until dinner! Nicely spiced sausage with oozy, rich cheese. The English muffin was beautifully toasted and crunchy. The sauce didn't taste like ranch but I enjoyed it anyway. I asked for the hash brown to be on the side instead of inside my muffin. I also ordered an iced matcha latte which isn't on the menu but it's possible to order it which is nice.
My partner's family ordered the breakfast carbonara and breakfast bowl, they both enjoyed their meals a lot so those are good options too!
There's quite a few options for parking, both street and paid metre. The hard part is finding a free spot. Cambridge Street was completely full by the time I got there at 9:10am, I ended up parking the next street over, Exeter Street, and it was still pretty full. Best bet is to go early to find parking.
I would definitely visit this cafe again and try their other items, great spot to catch up with...
