Lovely little breakfast spot in the heart of south bank! It’s small, but they offer an enjoyable breakfast outing! Coffee – 4.5 stars, really smooth and not bitter. Bonus, they give you a small brownie on the side which a is a nice touch. Menu – 4 stars. My meal was really nice, but the menu is quite limited. But maybe that’s by design to focus on what they do well. I had the avo on toast and with the bacon crumbles on top, it was beautiful! The amount of avocado was also really nice as so many places skimp, so I really appreciated that! Staff – 5 stars. Extremely friendly staff and always welcomed with a smile! Our coffees and food came quickly and the staff was just so lovely! Ambience/Space – 4.5 stars. Downstairs is a bit cramped and quite hot as the kitchen is open to the area. Upstairs is a lovely little oasis with so many plants and amazing aircon! The feel is just lovely and makes you feel that you’re maybe at the beach in a sleepy country town! Even with a small-ish menu, I will still return as everything was really enjoyable!

That was a great experience, the place looks so homey with a relaxing atmosphere, beautiful plants everywhere, like an escape from the city in the middle of the city. Personally, I would have added some nice ambient music too. The food was delicious with just enough food for me, but I could see how that could be not filling for some. I had the brekkie burger and it was sooo good. The buns were amazing. My partner had a Byron toasting and really enjoyed it even though it was a bit small. Now, I feel like they could improve their systems in terms of explaining that you have to come order at the counter as we were waiting for someone to come take our order upstairs. Also, they have a bit confusing table numbers system where our food got mixed up a couple times. But they made it up with a friendly team who fixed up the order mistake. Overall, good experience!

a very lovely hidden cafe in south brisbane with a beachy summer house atmosphere!!! heard about this cafe a while back and only recently decided to try it out, a small two storey cafe near fish lane in south brisbane~ lovely decor and colour theme, very relaxing and beachy~ upstairs is a very nice quiet seating area. Ordered a croissant with scrambled eggs and bacon, quite nice, was a tad too salty but overall alright~ açaí bowl was delightful, beautiful presentation with a lovely taste, downside would be the muesli was mainly all at the bottom and by the time you got there it was all soggy which isn’t really a pleasant taste but overall yummy~ items were a bit on the pricey side but still within cafe common pricing~ incredibly friendly staff with lovely smiles, was a lovely cafe experience🥰🥰🥰🥰

I’ve been coming here for years and always appreciated the warm vibe, but something has definitely shifted over the past year. Unfortunately, after today’s experience, I’m unlikely to return.

I was spoken to quite rudely by a newer staff member (a younger Asian man, possibly with an American accent) when placing my order. He then brought part of my order in a takeaway container, despite the fact I was a seated guest. He also rudely / frustratedly commented upon giving me my coffee that the number I had (which he'd himself given me) was wrong, as if it were my fault..

Later, as the café was preparing to close the upstairs area (which is usually done quietly and respectfully), the same staff member began cleaning in a loud and quite aggressive manner, moving the metal chairs around loudly, and also flicking dust into the air as people were eating next to him... No apology was offered, nor acknowledgment that it

The café used to have a beautiful, welcoming energy, largely thanks to the abundance of plants and overall atmosphere, but also the service minded staff members that used to work there. Sadly, that warmth seems to be gone, a lot of plants are gone, and the space now feels lifeless.

As I sit here finishing this review, I can also hear the same staff member loudly complaining about customers from the open kitchen, which is fully audible to everyone seated nearby. Comments like “rude, miserable people” and “if you’re going to complain about my behaviour, do it to my face” are being said loudly enough that it’s impossible not to hear them.

It’s a real shame to see a place I once loved lose its charm, hospitality, and sense of...

This place has so much potential - beautiful space and different vibe from cafes in the area. But something is lacking with the staff. No sense of urgency, awareness or customer service. I sat upstairs on Monday and all the tables wernt cleared, I cleared them myself to make a space to sit. My friend did the same. Then so did a group of women who came for lunch. No staff were tending to upstairs. My OJ arrived and bizarrely, the glass exploded. OJ went all over my pants, laptop and the floor. We began to try clean but there were no napkins upstairs. My friend ran down with the broken glass to alert staff of the spillage. I went down soaking wet asking for a chuk but was directed to the bathroom. The staff did not seem phased. I returned to my table and spillage and the staff STILL had not come up to clean it. It was very bizarre. I have never seen a spillage been unattended to in a restaurant/cafe like this before. My friend went back down, requesting help in clean up. Ultimately, my coffee was cold when I drank it as I spent time cleaning, the clean up was not sufficient (quick wipedown), food came out burnt and basic with no cutlery and our appetite was gone anyway because we were frustrated. All tables upstairs still not cleared. A family of 4 came and sat at the two armchairs and their kids on the floor as they could see all tables were dirty. We left and tried to explain this bad and bizarre experience- staff did not care. Again, bizarre!! You need a...

We had the worst possible experience at Newport's on Sunday. I actually had took the time to write out a formal complaint letter but had not heard back from the owner. Not surprising at all. We ordered and paid for 6 drinks but only received 4 after we had all finished our meals, which was 1.5 hours later. We thought oh they may have forgotten so asked the staff to check. Manager that day was extremely rude and repeatedly asked us to show her our bank statements and the timestamp, as she did not "want to give out free coffees". Fair enough, but after asking us to go downstairs repeatedly, she still did not believe us. Eventually she finally came upstairs to attempt to sort out the situation. Even after explaining to her, she explicitly said "I make all the coffees, I know the drinks have been made and delivered." There were clearly only 4 cups on the table. Not getting drinks is one thing, but to be repeatedly accused of trying to scam 2 drinks is a complete new experience for us. Service was poor as soon as we entered the store. Had to wait for 25 minutes for a booking that we made 1 month ago. Manager did not believe we had a booking until we showed her the text confirmation. Food was average, but the lasting negative impact was not worth at all. I would never recommend anyone to go to this cafe. I have never been to a place with such rude and disrespectful service...
