Not worth the price point to be honest, details below:
Went because coworkers in the area said it was good - maybe they are suffering from Stockholm syndrome as it's the only standalone bakery within walking distance. Pie was $12 and seriously small (smaller than the typical pie). So oily. You could even see the oil dripping out from under them in the cabinet, yet somehow, the inside managed to be dry/tough? The donut I had was also oily as if it had just been placed straight onto parchment after cooking. If they could tone down the oil I would still say the product is not worth the price. The flavours are good, but the quality seems comparative to other bakeries in the surrounding suburbs, not higher as the social media and word of mouth makes out. I think the concept of a high end bakery that does specialty baked goods is there but just not achieved 100%. People pay the price for the convenience, but the steak and ale pie from 7 eleven across the street - at half the price - is just as satisfying. The staff that served me and acknowledged me were nice and presentable. Previous reviews mention an overall indifferent attitude but I didn't sense any of that. They were lovely. They just seemed to each have individual jobs to do and we're keeping their heads...
Read moreEat with your eyes...QAB is a beautiful bakery, and a welcome addition to the king st eateries. I'm going to get straight to the point. The pastries taste great however most have all the same textures of dryness. QA's are dry, and NOT buttery. Pies are dry I've ordered the beef three times now and can confirm theyre roux-less. I initially thought it was a mistake however unfortunately isn't. The pastry and crust were unfortunately the best part of the pie.
Favourite so far is the bourbon QA however the base QA I feel still needs some work, Ekka QA was ok as well however texture seems to be a commonality.
Babka passable, the donuts seem to be there just to fill empty space and don't suit the bakery motifs. Would make sense to have a pain au chocolat or to keep with the round trend, and replace it with the supreme croissant. Would recommend to move away from wow factor and chasing influence clout and focusing next on the textures of the products as I would love to see this place stick around. Atmosphere is great when its busy, and customer service is great. Thank you for moving away from the paper bags for the larger...
Read moreI visited your store on Sunday 12/10 and was very intrigued on your selection for the day.
I was sucked in by the amazing looking pork, apple and fennel sausage rolls, but my god was I left utterly disappointed. Extremely oily pastry, to the point it was dripping oil everywhere. The mince filling was extremely dry. I also purchased a raspberry and passion fruit cruffin which was at no point even thinking of being raspberry, except for the sad looking raspberry forced on the top for what seemed like “ just for the sake of it”.
I wouldn’t be so disappointed but when I walk in and spend $50+ for a truly and I mean truly unforgettable experience you could understand my frustration.
Hopefully this was just a blip...
