I've been a regular customer at this cafĂ© for quite a whileâusually 3 times a week, always spending over $70 each visit. The staff here are generally friendly, polite, and professional, especially the young Australian man who works on weekends.
Unfortunately, today was a completely different experience. I went in with my aunt for breakfast (my mum and uncle were on their way to join us), and we were ultimately asked to leave the café by the woman at the counter, T, who claimed she was the manager.
From the start, she seemed confused with the ordering system and said she couldnât understand me, even though I repeated myself three times. I politely suggested she ask a colleague for help since we were in a hurry. Instead of helping, she questioned why I needed assistance if I knew how to use the system.
After placing the order, I asked about the price of a hot milk, as we were charged $3 the day before but $4.90 today. She responded with sarcasm, saying it was a âkindnessâ we got it cheaper before, and again resisted asking for help from her team.
Later, when we asked for takeaway bags, she mocked us again. I had to ask another staff memberâan Australian womanâwho kindly brought us the correct bags. I thanked her, but T walked by, rolled her eyes, and said coldly, âIf you don't respect me, Iâll refund you and you can leave.â When I asked to speak to the manager, she told me she was the manager.
We asked for a refund, which was paid in cash despite our card payment. She gave the wrong amount at first, laughed, and only after we pointed it out again did she hand over the remaining $2.
We left and got breakfast next door at Stella. Iâve never been treated like this as a paying customer. Being mocked, eye-rolled, and kicked outâespecially at a place weâve supported regularlyâis unacceptable.
Good food is important, but good service is essential. I work in healthcare and run my own retail businessâI know that how you treat your customers matters. Sadly, I wonât be returning unless...
Read moreVenue: small shop. Lovely outdoor. A little bit packed. Not for wheelchair. Park at street. --- 6.5/10 Service: It's Father's Day, but not busy. An African girl needs more training. She lacks of communication skills - no eye contact, no smile, no thank you. After tapping my card, she's gone (to make my drink?/ hiding somewhere). I just wanna ask for receipt. I didn't see her until she served me my drink. Other girls were good, talked with me with smiles. She asked me if my drink was hot enough because she found the machine was out of order. Food served fast. Tap water is available at the entrance. ---- 6.8/10 Food: Prices on menu not including GST. Acceptable price. Normal presentation. Cheese Burger, $17: served with chips. Not many chips but enough for me. Burger was good. There are 3 slices of gherkin and melted cheese. The buns were toasted. Beef patty was thick and jucy. --- 7/10 Hot Chocolate, $5: The milk foam on the top was pretty cold. Chocolate was hot beneath. After stiring, it's just warm. Hotter or warmer is...
Read moreI waited 30min for some eggs which I asked the waitress if she could check on. It came out cold and the eggs had hardened. My drink which usually will come in a glass of you order it for here came in a paper cup. Which I dismissed as I assumed they didnât have glasses (the cup is quite a bit smaller than the glass) then watched as only the men in the establishment where receiving glasses so I asked for one because I prefer them and the waitress rolled her eyes. At the same time I noticed I had no cutlery on my table and went up to let her know and again she rolled her eyes and this time shooâd me off.
The woman 2 tables from me asked for some cutlery as well and the waitress huffed as she walked off to go get it.
Itâs quite uncomfortable talking to a good amount of staff in this establishment as they make your requests feel like the biggest inconvenience in the world.
I wouldnât recommend this place if you have social anxiety haha
On that note the shorter lady working the register...
