Wow, wow, WOW — what an absolute treat from start to finish!
This restaurant, tucked inside the JW Marriott Hotel, delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences my partner and I have ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was flawless. A gentleman graciously opened our car doors and escorted us to the restaurant — a classy touch that set the tone for the evening.
As we entered, we were warmly greeted by the host, who guided us to our table, pulled out our chairs, and elegantly placed napkins on our laps. Moments later, our server John (Johannes) appeared and offered us water. Within minutes, he returned with our drinks, and took the time to ensure we were comfortable and ready to order.
After submitting our order, Johannes surprised us with a small complimentary dish — a smoked Barramundi bite — and it was incredible. It was such a thoughtful touch, and set the culinary tone perfectly. I also can’t recommend the Nostalgiatini enough — the sweet rim combined with the tart, balanced flavour of the drink made it one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had.
For our meal, we ordered a dozen oysters (fresh and absolutely delicious), the Wagyu flank steak, the Wagyu rib-eye, and an extra side of those mouthwatering potatoes (I can't recall the name, but I promise — get them!). Everything was cooked to perfection, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavour.
Johannes was the perfect server — attentive without being intrusive, warm, professional, and clearly passionate about great service. He made us feel so well taken care of, and he truly elevated the entire experience. At the end of the meal, he brought over one final surprise: a piece of almond dark chocolate. I’m not usually a fan of dark chocolate, but this was unbelievably good — rich, smooth, and a perfect end to the night.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything was exceptional. While tipping isn’t customary in Australia, the level of service we received absolutely warranted it. We were more than happy to show our appreciation to the incredible team, especially Johannes, who was a standout in every way.
This wasn’t just dinner — it was an experience. We’ll be talking about it for a long time. Highly,...
Read moreWhat a disappointment! I had been looking forward to this for a week. We've moved away from the GC so the trip back to the rat race is never our preferred holiday destination and the only reason we leave our slice of paradise for this mayhem is to dine at Citrique! We've been going to Citrique when we lived here well before COVID when the price was affordable ($69-$89 ppn) and great value for money. Now the price at $129 per person is exorbitant, excessive, and does not match the quality of the food (or lack of) which is a huge disappointment. Not even close to the value for money it used to be. We used to be huge advocates for what used to be the best EVER seafood buffet we'd tell our friends, in Queensland! Well not anymore. The last 2 times we went to Citrique (when the desert bar was on the lower level), the seafood was starting to lose its luster. The prawns were okay, the items in the salad bar were okay except the fruit was soggy and tasteless. The best part was the scallops. We thought it may have just been an off night. So, because we truly loved our usual experience at citrique, we decided to give it another chance. Hubby and I had the seafood buffet last night (10/01/2025) and what a massive disappointment. It breaks me to say it but honestly, don't bother. The seafood (every bit of it) was bland, watery, and tasteless. Everything that was cooked was so dry, oyster kilpatrick, baked salmon, sweet sour pork, rice, pizza, gnocchi, nuggets, chips, roast meats literally all of it! We practically filled up on water to get it down. The salad bar was fresh and tasty but lettuce for $129?! Yeah dont think so. The deserts were amazing absolutely loved the mango sorbet highly recommend but there are so many desert places in surfers paradise now, paying $129 per person for cake is obviously ludicrous. The service is amazing as it always has been but the food is not even close to the pre-COVID quality and standard it used to be. For the love of food, F&B Manager, Head Chef or Chef de Partie, please please please quality control your food before it is too late. It's too late for us we won't be back and with a heavy heart we will no longer be recommending to our...
Read moreThe seafood were very fresh especially the natural oysters, the salmon sashimi, cooked prawns and scallops. The current Sri Lankan theme is interesting and very tasty. The quality of the food is generally higher than other buffets in the Gold Coast.
It’s a busy restaurant but not overly crowded which is good to not to queue for too long to get my food. This is probably because the price point is higher than some of the busier buffet around in the GC.
The staff were efficient and very attentive. Serving with a smile and friendly. After paying, one of the staff who realised at the end that my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary insisted we take home some cakes since we don’t want to eat anymore. A very nice gesture. The free parking was also a great addition.
The reason for a four star rating was that when paying we were told that we had to pay for the still bottle of water and my cappuccino when were were not told by anyone that there is additional costs for these drinks. I even specifically asked a lady staff whether coffee was included and she said yes. When I was ready to order she was not there but a young male staff was there . He asked me if full cream milk was ok and I said I would like a lactose free milk which he said it was ok but never advise that it was chargeable. The surprised happened at the cashier but since it was our anniversary I did not want to embarrass my wife and paid for it. I was still not happy with it and spoke to a male manager on the side and whilst he was empathetic he said he cannot reversed the transaction since I have provided my bonvoy card QR code. He said that if we were to come back he will ensure I get free flow of Free coffee. Empty words that will definitely be forgotten. This was the only negative that otherwise would have been a...
