Have been to this place a few times in the past when in Coolangatta and the food had been fairly decent. Today, however, was not a good experience. There were four of us, and when we arrived we sat outside because there was already a table with four people inside, and it's a small place so outside was the only other place for four to sit. The people sitting inside left shortly after we ordered, before our food had come, so we decided to move inside off the street. The lady rudely told us we were not allowed to sit inside. She insisted the tables inside were only for two people. I could maybe understand if there were people waiting for tables and the place was packed, but a) there was only one other customer at the time so other empty tables, and b) she was extremely rude about it and made us feel extremely unwelcome. On top of that, the food was average at best. The pad kra pao was not typical authentic pad kra pao, the flavour was more like a generic stir-fry with random vegetables like carrot thrown in, and the egg was very overcooked. The nam tok was okay but the flavour balance was also off. I lived in Thailand and ate these dishes regularly so it was not a matter of us not being familiar with them. My kid had the tom yum noodle soup and was also not impressed. Both the nam tok and tom yum were ordered spicy, but were more like medium spice at best. I would usually ask for extra chilli in that case as I understand sometimes restaurants tone it down for Westerners, but after the way the woman had spoken to us, we just wanted to eat and leave as soon as possible. The sticky rice was also just put on a plate rather than in a container like it usually is served which is not really ideal, especially when forced to sit outside in the wind.
The service has never been particularly polite or friendly, and I don't expect 5 star service at a place like this, but the rudeness was completely unnecessary and a very unprofessional way to treat customers when running a business. Only one other table came in as we were leaving anyway, so she carried on like that for no reason and in the process lost us customers who otherwise might have returned. It ruined our day, after spending close to $80. Thankfully there are plenty of similarly priced Thai restaurants on the Gold Coast with better food, and who don't treat their...
Read moreHad dinner there a couple of years ago, food and service were great, spending a couple of nights at Coolangatta and decided to go there for dinner. Must be different owns and the place has gone downhill. One of the ladies there, maybe the owner, was loud and abrupt. Went in got a table and ordered our meals and 2 drinks. We got our drinks and entree, that was fine, then the waiting started for our meals, there were people who came in after us were getting their meals before us. After about 30 minutes, I went to the counter and asked the girl how far away was our meals. She asked us what we ordered and told us we number 53, they called out number 53 and that was another customer's meal. She again asked what our orders were, again we told her and advised her we've already had our entree and drinks, then we were asked if we've already paid, that was rude. Another lady yelled out from the back, that they are busy, thats not an excuse for running a business, that's not busy, that incompetent, she doesn't know how to run a business. We were again asked what our orders were, 4th times lucky.... While waiting for another 15 minutes, a young couple sitting on the next table, had their meals in takeaway containers ... 🤦.... Eventually, we received our meals which were very salty, so salty my wife couldn't not eat it all. I can normally tolerate poor service but that was ridiculous. Not even an apology from the owner, I will not be going there again and don't recommend this place. They had the nerve to charge surcharge..... I give that business half a...
Read morea homely place, I came because reviews said the staff was nice. That was not my experience. I got laksa and coffee, the laksa was alright, a little sweet and thick soup, not really the singapore/malaysian style but the coconut milk taste did shine through. the coffee was straight diabetes... super sweet. i couldnt finish it and wanted to dilute it with some ice so i went to the counter to ask for some but probably the lady thought i was after some freebies, she glared at me quite fiercely and said ice was $1. Its alright that ice is not free, but really no need to glare, I wasnt demanding it either, but asked politely. I hope she sees this and realise that her coffee is too sweet and she made someone feel unwelcome...
