Having gotten pretty used to having sushi train around ever since I can remember, I was pretty disappointed when it closed.. however.. .. my wife and I tried this place on a whim this weekend, and we were seriously impressed! The octopus karaage, tempura prawn roll and katsu udon were top notch, and everything was incredibly fresh. From what I could tell, it’s a small family business and the owners were either cooking or waiting, and super friendly. The menu is really well priced as well, we spent about half the amount as a similar Japanese restaurant just around the corner and the food is on par, if not better at Japango, in my opinion. We will be back here, for sure.. I’m just scared it may be too frequently! EDIT: Katsu Udon, Soft Shell Crab & Tempura Prawn Roll.. this place has truly is the best Japanese in Coolangatta!

Japango in Coolangatta offers sushi with a clarity and care thats hard to find on the GC. Our grilled salmon and scallop nigiri arrived fresh and warm, each bite revealing a quiet balance of smoke and sweetness. Next was the eel which was rich and silken, unctuous without excess. Even the avocado-seafood ships, often treated as a kind of filler dish, were generous and thoughtfully composed. The space still harks back to its sushi train origins, but the attention to detail—both in technique and flavour of the food—sets it apart. There’s restraint here, and confidence too. A small place, but one that lingers in memory. Best sushi we’ve had in a long while… #JapangoCoolangatta #GoldCoastEats #SushiQueensland #NigiriCraft #QuietExcellence

Needed a Japanese place for a birthday lunch, after a plane's delayed arrival meant lunch near the airport. I have to say, the reviews are spot on! Delicious Japanese food, freshly and promptly prepared. Particularly liked the karaage chicken, one of the best I've had! Not as fancy in surroundings as I'd thought, & not as obvious to find as I'd thought. Nevertheless, well worth making the time to go for some sashimi, sushi, udon or a curry, just to mention a few!

Absolutely fantastic! We’ve dined here several times, and each visit has been consistently impressive. The authenticity of the food blew me away. We started with the miso soup and Agedashi tofu, which was warm and comforting, followed by the spicy fresh tuna Avo and chicken karaage. The highlight was the king fish carpaccio —so fresh, it practically melted in my mouth. The presentation was beautiful, and the quality of the fish was top-notch. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was very welcoming and attentive. If you love traditional Japanese cuisine, this place is...
