The Lean Chef Kitchn — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

I'm putting two stars rather than one because this place was awesome about 18 months ago and the issues lie with the new chef(chef?), not the front of house staff which all do a good job and seem friendly as. Lady in the front makes a great coffee. But this is the THE most confusing cafe you could go to. Sitting at your table with a bottle of water and a full glass of it? The staff will offer you water. Sitting at your table with no water? The staff will not offer it to you. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ Order fresh spinach and baked tomato? You'll receive wilted spinach and fresh tomato. Want to actually eat the dry muesli on the breakvast board (why serve food on a board barely big enough😂)? Well you won't have any yoghurt or milk so crunch away. In fact that whole meal is really devoid of moisture in general. I think the inside of the hash is the wettest thing on the cutting board that your food keeps falling off. Why did you guys stop doing overnight muesli? It was sweet, moist and enjoyable. Why the hell would you serve a cup of dry muesli by itself? Why is the grilled chicken unseasoned and dry as? Why can't your kitchen dude poach an egg? The inside was hard like it had been boiled. Why was my toast soggy when there was nothing on it 😂

Table service cafe. Asked waitress for table water as served us and we placed order.

Ordered bacon and eggs x 2 and coffee. See photo of how much scrambled eggs came with meal... smallest serving I’ve ever had at cafe. Absolute joke

This was remedied with a extra side on complaining to waitress.

Also mentioned to chef who came outside and was obviously doing a round to check in with everyone how the food was. This is good however.... When I mentioned the eggs serving to him, he was surprised so I showed him the photo to show how many eggs came when initially served.

He questioned whether I had already eaten some of the eggs so basically accused me of Being a liar in front of my son who was eating with me. I told him I had taken the photo immediately on being served... he then arrogantly advised that I got an extra side... really poor customer service and in front of other customers

Water still hadn’t arrived at table near end of meal.. so had to ask same waItress again for water, she replied “Sorry we are really busy”?? I replied shouldn’t water be placed on table at turn of service ?? I then got attitude from her

Terrible experience in many levels

I was really disappointed with my experience at The Lean Chef Kitchn. Our waiter had a terrible attitude and was completely unhelpful. I ordered the smashed avocado, only to receive a tiny tablespoon of avocado barely spread on the bread—and it wasn’t even smashed properly. Considering I paid $22 for this, I expected much better. When I asked for more avocado, I was charged an extra $6 for just half an avocado, which is completely unreasonable. When I made a comment, not only did she roll her eyes and made it seem like I was a complete inconvenience, her response was, “Well we need to make a profit.”

We asked the waiter a few times, “So what does a full avocado cost?” Her response was $12 dollars!

It’s almost comical at this point - as a local who loves to support small businesses I will definitely not return. To anybody reading this, you’re better off going to their competitor down the road called, “Cafe Alfons” The staff won’t treat you poorly, food is much better and your dollar goes a lot further.
