NO BISTRO !!!!! highly recommend great bistro meal at good price in upstairs restaurant NO BISTRO !!!!!] / friendly staff / lots of pokies to choose from, plus roulette
UPDATE
NO BISTRO !!!!! was closed due to covid rules, but hasn't been reopened, and seems no intentions of reopening. NO BISTRO !!!!! incredibly disappointing. dramatically reduces my willingness to recommend going to the club for a meal. NO BISTRO !!!!!
apart from the incredibly expensive restaurant upstairs, there is now only the cafe and the "sports bar grill" restaurant. the cafe offers snack and small sized meals at normal-ish prices. the sbg offers larger meals, but couldn't be called cheap.
staff are still very friendly.
the free non alcoholic drinks brought to you when you're playing the pokies etc is great. they even bring around hot snack foods apparently, but i haven't been there at the right time it seems.
LATEST EDIT RE RESTAURANT [AND PROBABLY LAST EVER
short version - don't bother, it isn't worth going there.
some reasoning - not for the first time, i left hungry, not having finished the meal, because i didn't want to eat it. i made it clear to the people i typically go there with, that i will not be dining there again, and they understood completely.
some specifics - a parmi is a pretty stock standard meal at any pub, and typically not easy to "stuff up", but they rarely seem to be able to get it right.
also, the vegetables that came with meals of the people dining with me were so undercooked that they were so hard that they were literally inedible, so none were consumed, or even attempted to be consumed.
i waited some time after getting home before writing this, wanting to make sure i wasn't over reacting etc, but despite the time to allow reassessment, i remain so thoroughly disappointed in my dining experience, yet again, that i am strongly resisting the urge to use much stronger language in describing how i feel about the restaurant experience.
must emphasise, staff are polite and courteous, and are not the issue, the quality of the meals is the issue. these are not cheap meals either, they are priced at a premium, apart from the small discount for members.
go there if you want to play the pokies and get free non alcoholic drinks and snacks, but don't expect a good meal from...
Read moreI am writing to express my disappointment with the meals my party and I had at the Brewhouse Restaurant on Saturday night. As regular patrons of this restaurant, we were surprised by the quality of our meals.
The lamb we ordered was extremely raw and undercooked, and unfortunately, we had to send it back to the kitchen. This was unexpected as the meals we have had in the past have always been great. However, on this occasion, the food did not meet our expectations.
Furthermore, the restaurant was unusually quiet for a Saturday night when it is usually busy. We hope that this was not a sign of a decline in the quality of service and meals.
We did bring this to the attention of the waiter who mentioned that there is a new chef in the kitchen, which could explain the discrepancy in the quality of the food. Nonetheless, as valued customers, we hope that the restaurant takes our feedback constructively and work towards improving the quality of their meals and service.
If it helps, I have attached a photo of the raw lamb to this review to illustrate the issue. On a side note, for those who want to cook a rack of lamb, here are the cooking instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Season the lamb with salt, black pepper, and any other desired herbs or spices. Heat a skillet over high heat and sear the lamb for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Place the lamb in a roasting pan and roast for 15-20 minutes for medium-rare. Let the lamb rest for 5-10 minutes before carving.
We enjoy dining at the Brewhouse Restaurant and would like to continue doing so in the future. We hope that this experience was just a one-off and that it will not be repeated. Thank you for taking the time to read our review, and we look forward to seeing improvements in the...
Read moreDisappointing Experience – Needs Serious Improvement
I recently visited this commercial hotel and, unfortunately, it fell well short of expectations.
To begin with, the service was underwhelming. When I raised a concern about my steak—which was not only cold but so tough it could’ve used a chainsaw—the staff member responded with a dismissive attitude. In hospitality, professionalism and respect when handling customer concerns should be a given, but that was sorely lacking during my visit.
Additionally, the young man taking our orders came across as immature and out of place in a professional setting. A more customer-focused attitude and basic courtesy would have significantly improved the experience.
As for the food, the steak—despite being priced like a premium cut—was anything but. The quality was second-rate at best, leaving us feeling overcharged and disappointed. If you're going to charge top dollar, the meal needs to reflect that value. Sadly, it didn't.
To make matters worse, the pepper sauce served with the steak was a watery, brown liquid devoid of any flavor—and completely missing the peppercorns. Perhaps this might pass in NSW, but Victorians expect better.
In summary, this venue needs to return to the basics: quality food, respectful and professional service, and a staff that reflects the standard one would expect in hospitality. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback on board and makes some serious changes. As it stands, I can’t recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a satisfying...
