Capital Thai BBQ Mookata - 21A Campbell St, Haymarket (Next to Capital Theatre) If you're in the mood for a unique and enjoyable dining experience, Capital Thai’s Mookata BBQ offers something different from the typical Aussie buffet. Mookata, a Thai BBQ steamboat, which literally means 'pork' and 'skillet' in Thai. It combines grilling and simmering, where you cook your selection of marinated meats, seafood, and veggies right at your table. For $42.80 per person, you get access to a decent spread of marinated pork, chicken, prawns, octopus, and fish, alongside a variety of green vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, and herbs. Tasty dipping sauces are also on offer. But there is more! For the “hungry” some precooked fried offerings + rice also available. The process is straightforward: A waiter takes you to your table, starts your 90-minute session, and gets the skillet heated up. You then select your protein and veggies, grease the skillet with pork lard, and start cooking. You can also simmer ingredients in the surrounding broth, which turns into a flavourful soup—don’t forget to top it up with water as you go! Fresh fruit is available to round off your meal, and refillable soft drinks are included in the price. Fully licensed with Thai beers on tap. BYO also offered for wine only ($10 per bottle) NOTE: • 90-minute seating window for Mookata • Charges apply for food waste, so select only what you need • Returning uncooked meat and other food to the buffet station is strictly prohibited, with a $100+ fine. Capital Thai’s Mookata BBQ is an experience, offering a tasty and interactive meal that’s well worth trying, something different. A traditional Thai menu with table service is also available

Great deal on All You Can Eat Thai BBQ Mookata (please note that they use pork fat to grease the bbq skillet) & Hotpot! Delicious meats selection, with some seafood & plenty of veggies too. Love the tasty dipping sauces 😍! There are some hot foods such as fried rice, chicken wings etc. Plus unlimited soft drinks! With really good desserts options, including DIY shaved ice dessert, coconut pudding & ice cream. We really enjoyed the rice ball in coconut milk. Conveniently located near Capitol Theatre. Plenty of seatings, hence great for groups. Kids are charged by height. Please note that they charge $100 food wastage for uneaten/uncooked food on the table.

We went here for dinner prior Moulin Rouge show and reserved table online for ala carte dinner (not Bbq/hotpot). There were 4 of us and ordered 3 main dishes for sharing (2 stir fry noodles & 1 fried rice) + 2 sodas (we plan to have cocktail drink during the show). We are not big eaters and we don’t want to feel too full before the show, also because one of my friends have a sore tummy and hardly have appetite to eat, hence, we “only” ordered 3 dishes. However, one of the senior staff approached us and said that since we reserved a table online and it is peak hour of the night, we didn’t order enough and should order some more. We should order one more dish since there’s 4 of us, or order an entree and order at least a mocktail or glass of wine. With hesitation, we ordered an entree, even though we know it’s already plenty. For drinks, since it’s a Thai restaurant, I wanted a Thai Milk Tea, she said they don’t have it. My friend with a sore tummy wanted to order hot tea, she said they didn’t have it. So I just ordered another soda for myself to appease her & not cause scene. But the point is, we didn’t just stay & chat, we ordered something substantial from the menu and she shouldn’t have told us “we didn’t order enough”. She was so rude and walking out on us when we were trying to talk to her. Woman like her can definitely learn a thing or two on how to be polite and how to give quality service. What a shame because all other staff was lovely and food...

When I try to recall the WORST restaurant experience in all of Sydney, I think of Capital Thai. I truly despise this place with a PASSION! And here is why.

I came here with my wife for dinner. At first the staff were friendly and we were seated quickly. We chose the buffet option, so we picked out our food and brought it back to the table. That's when we noticed our burner wasn’t working and we could hear the canister leaking gas. We asked a waitress to exchange it, but instead she kept trying to ignite the burner. She even called over a more senior staff member to help and ignored our repeated pleas to have the burner switched as we could smell the gas. Unfortunately we were ignored and within seconds the stove burst into flames. The waitresses then quickly walked away and left us to fend for ourselves. We were left shaking and were completely ignored by all staff whilst other patrons stared at us, clearly looking more concerned than any of the staff. At this point we had to leave. As if that experience wasn’t bad enough we then had the misfortune of being berated by the owner who demanded we pay even though we hadn’t eaten anything. It wasn’t until the waitress from earlier explained the situation to the owner for 5 MINUTES, that she finally gave in and let us leave. Never coming back.

TLDR; We came for Thai BBQ and instead we nearly...
