The place is nice with modern decor but it's unfortunately not enough. The staff are friendly and we initially had high hopes for this restaurant. The food was overall hit and miss, and there were a number of problematic issues we experienced.
When ordering our food, we asked for some tap water. We waited a long time and it never came so we had to ask for it a second time, despite it not being too busy.
We also ordered a vietnamese iced coffee which did not come, after seeing other customers' drinks arrive, we decided to ask the waitress who took our order. She said that I never ordered it. We absolutely did order it, she even verbally repeated the drink and confirmed it as she entered it on the ipad at the time of order. There was no apology from her, and we no longer wanted the drink anymore so we asked for it to be cancelled. Shame because we went somewhere else to compensate our craving for a drink.
The food took a while to arrive, given it was late in the afternoon. The grilled beef vermicelli was ok, tasted nice but the portions were very small given the price ($16-17).
The beef pho fell well below expectations, was extremely bland and had very little flavour. The soup was lukewarm and didn't taste freshly made straight from the cooking pot. There was no steam coming from the bowl, and after swirling the beef in the soup, it was still pink. When the pho arrived, there was no spoon in the bowl and we had to ask for one. The waitress who served us was friendly but unfortunately was not proactive or observant. She didn't place our drink order that we clearly ordered and even confirmed back to us, didn't give us water that we asked for or spoons for the pho and vermicelli.
The other waitress did ask for our feedback when we went to pay, which we appreciated but unfortunately we will not be back again. I would recommend going to proper vietnamese restaurants. This fusion style does not work. It was promising at first but turned out to be...
Read moreThis is a wonderful Asian offering located at the (newish) eat strip of Marrickville Metro. You can eat in the nicely fitted-out modern indoor seating or under covered outdoor seating. Our food order was taken by the polite an attentive waitress, who also offered nice suggestions for our Sunday brunch. The food came out quite promptly, possibly because we were there before the lunch time hustle. The crackling pork belly bao was very tasty and the crackling was on point. It's a great starter quickly followed by a plate of banging salt and pepper squid. This dish was so good. Lovely bite-sized pieces which were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and spongey on the inside. A definite stand out dish and nicely complimented by a glass of young coconut juice to wash it down. Our 2 mains followed soon after and did not disappoint. The crispy grilled pork vermicelli salad was up there with some of the nicest ones we've had. The pork pieces were perfectly prepared with just the right amount of grilling to make it crunchy but not dry. Blended with the noodles and salad and splashed with the tangy sauce it was near perfect! Finally our second main was the fried rice. With a mix of fried egg flakes and sweet onion pieces it was absolutely delicious and exactly how I like my fried rice. The food was wonderful, the staff were great but the pricing was slightly on the higher end for this type of food but it was well worth it. We were totally full and content and both agreed it was...
Read moreWe love going to Rice Pantry at St. Peters. And we were so excited to try their newly opened restaurant in Marrickville Metro. We went there yesterday for our lunch fix. We were the second 'group' to be seated. We were given the menu and it went downhill from there. In 10 mins we were seated, the place was already pack. We waited 30 minutes and still no one came to take our order. But they have asked orders from other tables. So my husband went to the counter then someone went to our table to take our orders. If I counted it right, we were the 5th or 6th table to be asked what food we like to order. We ordered 5 dishes and 2 drinks. I have to say we were very disappoint. Every food taste BLAND, yes very bland. There was no taste at all. Even my kids didn't eat their food. But we had no choice, we had to eat what we ordered. My husband went to pay for our bill and told the lady at the counter that their food is bland. All she said was sorry. We are never coming back to this place. My kids left the restaurant hungry. Lucky we had two free ice cream voucher from...
