Café Bazar — Restaurant in Salzburg

Ridiculous. My family and I traveled 2 1/2 hours to Salzburg. Based in recommendations, we decided to walk anther 30 minutes to this cafe for breakfast. The clock hit 11:40 ish and the cafe was pretty packed and we had to wait… we didn’t mind. After all, we understood that the waiters had several customers, and wanted to be respectful for them. We finally got a table. For a family of four, the table was small, but we managed to accommodate the chairs so we aren’t all cramped together. A menu was already presented on the table already, and everything was in German, which is understandable, considering we are in Austria. I am looking at the menu when suddenly a waiter, who was a blonde lady with short hair, YANKS the menu out of my hands, and walks off. No explanation, no nothing. My brother and I look at each other in bewilderment, cause obviously that was rude. Minutes pass. No one came up to check on us, they throw us one menu, only to be hurrying us to pick. We ask for coffee’s and he states that the break feast time has passed. We weren’t EVER told this? Also, it’s literally called Bazar CAFE. Lol?? We just left, at went to Mozart Cafe. 100% better. Overall: unorganized, crowded, hella expensive for breakfast, and extremely disrespectful. I’ve worked at a restaurant before… I know how it can get. Just left this cafe 30mns ago! I don't like being negative about things and I try not to let this experience ruin my overall memory of this beautiful and culture-rich city. But I must share this for others to consider before spending their hard earned money on this pricey place (but money is not the point of contention here). I've travelled all over Europe and never felt so discriminated before. After (politely) refusing to try the recommended juice (which we didn't budget for), we felt we were ignored after the food and coffee were served. To us, the place has some of the worst table services - esp for a place that makes tipping a norm. We asked for the bill 5 times from 3 different waiters and waitress to no avail. The man serving our table ignored us repeatedly - though we could see he saw and heard us. We could see that he was serving and issuing bills for tables that came later. We insisted so much that the lady serving other tables had to walk over and reminded the man to attend to us. It took 26mns to get the bill. Perhaps it was just this one waiter, or it was peak hour. We overall paid 50 euros for 3 coffee and 3 small breakfasts - they're all delicious, btw. But we didn't enjoy the environment and felt we didn't get the treatment we deserve for a place at this price. I went to this cafe twice during my stay in Salzburg. The first time, they brought someone else’s coffee to the wrong table (my table), setting it in front of me and leaving before I could point out I didn’t order it. After a few minutes, I figured it was complimentary or part of my meal, so I drank it. My original server (not the one who brought this coffee) angrily asked whether I had drunk it, and when I said I had, he (still annoyed) said it was for the man seated at a nearby table. To calm things, I apologized and offered to pay for this drink, but this server - an older gentleman - rudely blew me off. As far as I know, you can’t re-serve food/drinks once they’ve been brought to the wrong table anyway, due to health regulations. For this ill treatment, lack of graciousness, and their unwillingness to admit to a mistake, I’m sorry to say this historic cafe gets only three stars from me. It’s a shame, because the food and coffee were excellent and served promptly. I came back a second time and had a much better experience, but I would advise the staff to handle situations like the unordered coffee better.
