The steaming hot hand towel was the best part of my experience in this restaurant. And I liked the chutneys that came with the papads (welcome snack). This was great for first impression. The ambience was cozy and service was efficient, won't exactly call it warm. As an Indian, and a foodie, I honestly found the food a little underwhelming, especially after all the great reviews and photos online. If this was some other cuisine that i wasnt familiar with, say Paraguayan or Siberian, i would have just eaten and said it was good. Or if a friend cooked at home, i would just eat and be happy with it. But having grown up eating good Punjabi and other North Indian food for years, i couldn't bring myself to say the food in this restaurant is great, esp.because this is restaurant food, for which I'm paying to eat. The dal makhni wasn't cooked enough, it was neither soft nor buttery, and lacked flavour. The chicken pieces in the chef's special chicken was dry, palak paneer was bland (even the unusual cylindrical shaped paneer pieces couldn't save that dish), the naan was more like thick pita bread, and the rice in the biryani was certainly not basmati, it's some unusual smooth and long spindly variety, the biryani itself didnt have much flavour. The price for all the dishes seemed a little too high for that food and service. My non-Indian friends from four different European countries didn't have any complaint about the food though. 🤠 Well, since I am very particular about my dal makhni and naan and juicy chicken and everything else, I'll stick to my two favourite Indian restaurants that I've already identified in Vienna in the past few years.
PS: this restaurant is at a basement level, so from the street entrance there's a flight of stairs leading down. I don't see...
Read moreGood food, although nothing special. Overall quite pricey and portions can be be relatively small.
Details: I had the following dishes (prices in parentheses): Boti Kabab - Grilled lamb cutlets + rice (23 €) Rogan Josh - Kashmiri lamb dish (14.5 €) + Rice (4 €) In addition, there are cover charges (1.5 €)
The "Boti Kabab" was good, although I definitely expected more at this price point: It was simply a few pieces of grilled lamb with rice and some vegetables. No special sauce for the lamb, and the vegetables weren't seasoned in a special way, either. So while it was definitely tasty, it just didn't differentiate itself enough from what you could easily cook yourself at home. And what's more, the portion was also quite small. Hence, I'd give this specific dish ("Boti Kabab") only 2.5 stars. The "Rogan Josh" was quite tasty for sure, although I'm not sure to what extent it's different from what you would get in other, cheaper Indian restaurants. And given that you have to order the rice extra for this dish, the price is also rather high (plus, it's also not a very big dish). All the worse, when I checked the receipt I noticed that I was charged 15.5 instead of 14.5 € for the "Rogan Josh" dish, although the menu definitely indicated that the price was 14.5 €. But even if this didn't happen, I'd only give the "Rogan Josh" dish 3.5 stars, given its price, its tastiness as compared to other Indian restaurants, and its relatively small portion. In sum, "Indien Village" is surely not the worst restaurant out there. But based on my experience as I described it here, this restaurant certainly only deserves a rating of 3 stars at best.

Read moreWas in vienna a day ago with my parents. Went to this restaurant which was nearby. We ordered gobhi kaju and dal makhani along with bread and rice.
Taste: gobhi kaju i will not recommend, it was eatable but not interesting at least to us. Dal Makhani was good, would recommend that. Also they chutneys(dip) they give along with papad were good as well.
Service: now in terms of service, i was not very pleased. It was acceptable, but you feel sometimes lack of hospitality towards your own community.
Money: the worst part which ruined the place for me was the unethical practices. As someone who is living in europe for 5 years, i can see how they try to take advantage. No where in the restaurant was mentioned that they levy “cover charge” which by the way after travelling whole europe, it was the only indian restaurant asking for it that too heftily! We paid 17€ gedenk for 3 person, on top of that they charged 6€ for extra charge as well which was another “gedenk”. With no explaination what so ever.
For an average food, they have priced each item on a higher side which honestly was not worth at all according to the place. The icing on the top is shady practice of fetching more from the customers.
Objectively, price performance ratio is not good and service is average. I would recommend to go to better places which are in...
