We came here with very high expectations due to the Michelin recommendation, we had a very lovely text prior to dining to confirm our table and they were super accommodating for us when we had to change days due to train issues into Bruges. Off to a good start…
The atmosphere was lovely, the space is nice, and the staff were friendly. We felt very excited by the sharing options and went for the 7 dish experience!
We had loved the wine and our first two dishes which were langoustine tartare and bresaola carpatchio, the tuna tataki was quite nice too.
After this, the experience seemed to take a turn for the worst. The dishes started to take a very long time to come out which was clearly due to understaffing, which wouldn’t have bothered me if the rest of the food was to the standard I was expecting.
The dim sum was so bland, undercooked and I have had better frozen ones from the Asian supermarket, the slaw on top was fine but very average. We hoped this was just one dud dish, but sadly this wasn’t the case. The rest of the dishes were also not up to par. The octopus was quite chewy (other than the tail which was good). The pulled pork croquettes brought it back a bit but by this point it was hard to enjoy the rest of my meal as we had to wait so long between each one and it was a gamble if it was going to be good or not… we finished with the Iberico ravoli, the pasta itself was well executed but the sauce and filling was once again average and frozen peas for presentation felt below the mark for the expectations of the experience.
With the high price tag you expect a certain level of quality and I just don’t think we had that today.
I do think this restaurant has promise and they must have got the Michelin guide recommendation for this working at some point… Maybe it was an off time for them? I think some time needs to be spent refining their concept and the dishes to bring them up to what is expected. It seems from other reviews I am not the only one who has experienced this recently so it shows that there’s some holes in their...
Read moreCalled to see if we could get a reservation at this restaurant. The owner /wife was more than accommodating. We arrived for dinner and found the restaurant lacking atmosphere and ambiance. The food was good, but when we ordered the dessert and received the wrong item, that is where we found the owner to be lacking customer service. Even when we pointed out in their menu that what we ordered was different from what we received, they surprisingly continued to argue and and be defiant. Eventually they acknowledged they had made a mistake but did not want to take the item off the bill or replace it. I prefer to dine at a restaurant that has excellent customer service and good food, than at one that has good food and poor customer service. We spoke of our experience at our hotel the next morning, and were surprised to hear the hotel staff speak of similar experiences with the owner's wife at this restaurant. My advice is to keep looking and spend ones money where it will be appreciated and...
Read moreQuatre Vins is a restaurant located in the historic center of Brugge (Bruges). There are menu options in which guests select a number of dishes (basically there is no distinction between starters and main courses as the dishes are small, like tapas). The dishes are intended to be shared. This concept is ideal for those who want to try as many dishes as possible to experience the skills of the chef as everything was delicious. The sharing food / small concept is not for those with big appetites who want to eat from a big plate. As for the wine, there is an original wine list and the owners are happy to share their knowledge of wine and recommend something for you, including one of the orange wines… Service was extremely helpful and attentive, the food was delicious (although left us wanting more so we ordered dessert afterwards)....
