I’ve been to this location a few times for take out. Food has always been ready for pick up. Love the hand pulled noodles. Portions look small, but the noodles are filling. Friend said the food here tastes just like in Taiwan. This place also has a loyalty card!
My favourite is #8 - stir fried beef hand pulled noodles, with thick noodles. Comes with noodles, meat and vegetables, and is very filling. Noodles are QQ. The beef is tenderized in the usual Chinese food fashion. I think the vegetables are just what they have on hand; once got tomatoes, but not another time. A bit on the greasy and salty side so make sure you have lots to drink to wash it down.
Others I’ve tried: #7 - hand pulled noodles in braised beef soup, with thin noodles. Also very good! Again, quite greasy and salty.
#1 - hand pulled noodles in beef soup, with thick noodles. Very good, but salty and greasy. Got the combo with this one which came with some meat and a tea stained egg. The meat wasn’t anything special and the egg tasted like a normal boiled egg.
#9 - stir fried noodles with cumin lamb and peppers, with thick noodles. Not a fan of lamb because of that lamb-y taste but if you like lamb, this might be for you.
Will be back...
Read moreI came to Calan Beef Noodle twice in one week because I wanted to try a couple different noodle types before review.
I ordered the braised beef soup both times, but had flat wide noodles the first time and thin noodles the second. My personal favourite were the thin noodles as they were the easiest to eat. The flat wide noodles had a really interesting bite to them, but I found most of them ended up cooking together in a weird way.
The broth was delicious both times. It's both savoury and ever so slightly sweet. The beef flavour pairs well with the hand pulled noodles and is light enough to drink even after your beef and noodles are gone.
The serving size was substantial, but where there are heaps of noodles, there is a little less brisket than I would have liked. They have combos with extra protein, but the price jumps $5-7 depending on which one you choose.
Overall, this place has a fantastic bowl of Chinese hand pulled noodles, and I'll...
Read moreWhat a place! Be prepared for a small wait as everything will be freshly made and the noodles hand-pulled as soon as your order is placed.
We went as a group and each ordered something different. Between just noodles or noodle soup, highly recommend the soup, as the broth is drool-worthy. Recommend getting the chili oil on the side so you can mix between regular and spicy vibes.
If you’re ordering a combo with the beef shanks, I highly recommend getting a braised beef, lamb and cumin, or chicken order for diversity.
Highly recommend ordering the tea as well. The decor on the tables features the variety of herbs and flavours you’ll find in your tea, and it’s both beautiful with the blooming flowers, and delicious with the infusion of flavours.
