Bird's Nest Cafe + Catering — Restaurant in Halifax

This five star review is a long time coming. Bird’s Nest Café is easily one of the best locations for quality coffee, food and service in the entire province. The front of house staff are always so wonderful, even when the lines are out the door and the temperature is through the roof. And though I haven’t met the back of house team, the fantastic baked goods, sandwiches and other products they are making on the daily speak for themselves. There is nothing I could write that would be adequate to describe how great the entire team is. Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee, looking to have an event catered, or otherwise, come here ASAP!!

Also I wanted to share in case the team reads this: your location is especially dear to my heart, as I was able to sip nervously on amazing coffee a few years ago while waiting for Fireworks gallery to open a few doors down. You all kept me fed and caffeinated so I wasn’t a complete nervous wreck when selecting and then picking up my now-wife’s engagement ring. So...

The service is a hit or miss—mostly good. It used to be my go-to place for lunch since it’s right next door, but after a few recent experiences, I’m not sure I’ll be going there as often.

The other day, I went to grab a vegetarian wrap. When I opened it, there was a piece of ham on top—not inside. They also sell ham wraps, so I’m assuming the surface where it was heated still had a piece of ham on it.

Today, I went to grab a sandwich and a side salad and specifically asked for no chickpeas. After returning to work and opening the salad box, I found chickpeas. I understand if the salad is premade, but if the cashier had informed me, I would have ordered something else.

I also got a rhubarb lemonade that had no hint of rhubarb in it, and today’s strawberry lemonade had too much syrup. I asked for less ice but received a cup full of it. When I politely requested less ice, the server didn’t seem too happy.

DO NOT COME HERE TO STUDY Would give this 0 stars if I could! I went in to study and have lunch, I asked multiple people if that was ok, everyone told me yes. I asked for the dining time, I was told 2 hours and that I can take my time. After less than an hour they told me I had to leave in 5 minutes. Sure I had finished my food, but I was there to mainly study. I left because I felt so uncomfortable! I went back in to complain and I was met with a lecture about how this business needs to survive and laptop users are the first to be asked to leave when there is a line up. I told them that people at the bar with laptops have been there for much longer than me and I would have rather waited for that seat. Complete waste of my money and I would have gone somewhere else had I known this would happen. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Someone at the bar should’ve been asked to leave since I had been there for less time....
