I visited Maynard twice while I was in Montreal for the weekend. This was for a few different reasons. Firstly, it was located proximally to my accommodation on Boulevard St Laurent in the Plateau. The second reason is that they are one of the few vegan restaurants that open early in the morning. The third and most important reason:
They have delicious food.
Definitely considered more of a junk food vegan restaurant, they do it well and in a way still leaves you feeling good. The tofu is exceptionally prepared on both the tofu and waffles and the nashville tofu sandwich. This is some of the best fried tofu I have ever had. The pogos are a nice touch which remind me of my childhood. Before I ordered the vegan version of the classic corn dog, I saw an advertisement for them at another non-vegan establishment. I remembered thinking, " who as an adult would order a pogo.". I discovered that I would and that everyone should try these vegan pogos...they are better than how I remember them, and I used to love pogos.
The staff were friendly, speaking both English and French. I was pleased with the sustainability efforts of the restaurant and encourage them to continue to set a positive example for vegan and non-vegan restaurants a like. If you are looking for a tasty meal, for a reasonable price that anyone can enjoy, you will be...
Read moreI had this restaurant on my “Have to go” vegan place for quite some time. I definitely wasn’t disappointed.
Had brunch (which are only during weekends) with a friend I hadn’t seen for a while and stayed for over 2 hours. We had a great meal!
Atmosphere is super relaxed and the staff is very friendly. The only thing I didn’t like was the frying smell. It’s understandable as the restaurant is quite small. You can’t really tell by looking at photos.
There are only 2 "bigger" tables as in it can sit up to 6 people. There’s another really cool table that is an old game (I can’t remember what it was) it can sit 2 or 4. Or sitting at the bar is also an option.
My favourite thing we ordered was by far the Blueberry Pancake. I normally wouldn’t order pancakes because they’re usually a disappointment ☺️ However, those ones were WOW. Super tasty AND fluffy! The portion was also very generous.
Their breakfast potato (Hashbrown) is good but on the oily side unfortunately. I did enjoy them but I do wish they’d be less greasy.
The breakfast sandwich was delicious and the bun is quite good. And so were the fried oyster mushrooms although a bit heavy on the batter. I felt it was more batter than mushrooms but I still enjoyed them.
Overall a lovely restaurant with a quaint feel and 100% vegan so...
Read moreThe petite poutines dish was generous & tasty, a little too salty, but overall, if everything else was good. The wings with the sauce are tasty. It's categorized as side, and indeed the dish size is of a size. So far So good. However... I would have given Maynard the max rate. Unfortunately, this is not the case; here is why: They offered me an English menu (I don't speak French), where the petite poutine price was $10 and the wings $12. When I found out that the ripped me off and charge me $14 for the wings. The Lady at the counter refused a refund, because the menu she gave me was old. I had to speak to the manager their (maybe the owner - I don't know). I got the difference back. Thereafter they threw away the English menu(s) rather than fixed it/them. I don't know if they have newer one. Regardless, till now got no apology for their mistake, and for their initial refund for the delta. Looking at the menu here, here are no prices at all, which I find a non-transparent thing to do.
Apparently, this is my first impression from Maynard. They have a way to go when it comes to customer services and prices transparency.
Also, I find it problematic, when a business does not...
