The worst experience ever !!!! I heard about this restaurant from one of my friend so I went to Chinatown just to go and have a nice dinner there. I have waited there queuing outside for 55 mn. Once my turn finally arrived the manager told me that since I was alone I have to wait for a side table to be free which i totally understood and he asked the couple behind me to go on the free couch table. But since the side tables were fitted for 2 people too I told one of this young waiter in the entrance in french that it was anyway the same for that couple to be placed on the side table or in the couch tables since they were both fitted for 2 customers. (If they would have placed 3 or 4 people on the couch table it would have made more sense to me). The waiter replied that it was more comfortable for the couple and that they don't provide couch tables for only one customer. I was a bit frustrated by the wait but I totally understood. Anyway I was there still waiting for my turn when I suddenly heard this same waiter talking to his colleague telling her in English "...she was bitching about the fact that she did not get the couch table" I was in shock... how rude and unprofessional... talking that bad in front of a customer who was queuing outside for almost an hour... I then told him that I understand English perfectly and that I want to talk to the manager. I approached the manager 5 mn later, I explained him the situation and told him I don't feel comfortable eating there. The manager seemed sorry and was actually nice, he didn't seem to understand the whole situation but he was at least trying to stay professional and he offered me a table. I refused and i left the restaurant so frustrated, I lost one hour for nothing. Horrible experience. Don't waste your time waiting there, its definitely not worth a dumpling...
(I then changed my mind about eating dumpling because of the whole frustration and I randomly stopped in "Nouilles de LAN ZHOU" which was about 5 minutes away from Sammi & Soupe restaurant... i queued for 25 mn but it was finally worth it, very good restaurant, the waiters in Lan zhou were so professional... and the food was amazing!! Nice food quality... at the end i was glad that I didn't eat in Sammi...

Resto is located along the busy street of Rue De la Gauchetière in Chinatown Montreal.
At first you'll never notice their resto since there are a lot of resto in the area with lots of appetizing banners showcasing their menus, what sets them apart is the looooong line of customers willing to wait and to be seated. We decided to give it a try luckily wait time is short.
Upon entering, no fancy decorations and everything is simple. Their menus only have dumplings and some appetizers.
We asked the server for their best seller and we ordered the classic juicy pork, spicy tofu and pizza dumpling as recommended.
Upon first bite of their dumpling, I finally understand why people are lining up. Dumpling was really delicious, can be compared to Din Fai Fung actually! I also like their " pizza twist" to usual dumpling, didnt know that cheese and dumpling combo is good (plus the crispy thing beneath the dumpling).
Resto is good for quick snack/lunch/dinner. Pretty straight forward kinda resto. Overall experience was great. Hope they can expand the variety of dumpling flavors that they offer.
Recommendation: there should always be someone manning the door/entrance to manage the line and avoid homeless from getting in (we were approached by a homeless while eating on our table inside the resto - asking us for money, it was a bit scary. Good thing another server was fast to act and had the homeless leave)
Tip: if you dont want to wait for too long , go to their other branch at St Catherine as it has less crowd/line...
Read moreTasty, friendly, but how they handle with the order they misheard could have been better. We told them we still like the wrong dumplings that came out, out of courtesy, saying were willing to pay for them, so we just want to correct the final payment, as the one came out was cheaper than what we ordered. First they said the dumplings were the right one, it just doesn't look like it... which we ordered shrimps but came out to be pork. However, it looked like a way too much of pork. They took a photo, and we took a photo, before they took the dumplings away. They then told us they want to give shrimps for free, we said we're full, and we just want to bill to be corrected to pork, instead of shrimps. Then they came to us again that we don't have to pay for the wrong one- at this point we just wanted to leave since we finished eating, so told them okay. Then they came to us again, the order we made at the beginning says that we ordered pork. Which means, the server got the wrong order. And they told us to pay for it, in a way that as if we lied, or we were confused. Well, if we're confused, I don't think we would have asked to correct the bill, or never asking for the correct one, and we never order the same pork twice, but anyways we paid all and the full tips. Also, we didn't get the dumpling back they took away. It could have been nice if they gave us a single sentence of apology for receiving the order incorrectly, instead of "it says you ordered pork dumplings". Until before than, it was great. Hopefully next time I'll get the...
