Short version first, the staff and chef (which looked like the owners) were rude and had heavy faces all throughout our meal which made our meal atmosphere really awful. They are also very expensive with small servings. Please don’t waste your money and time here.
Long version - we saw a Japanese restaurant while driving around looking for a place to eat and we got excited. We were in a bit of a hurry because we were on the last day of our Alberta vacation. We ordered take-out in person for my daughter, my son and myself (for 3 people) but they told us it will take 20 mins so I asked my husband who was at A&W to come so we can be together while we waited for our food. We were the only customers so I thought it would be okay for my husband to eat his single A&W burger while waiting with us. Looking back at it now, I should have asked if it was okay. Our order came the same time my husband walked in. We decided to eat in because my little girl ordered ramen soup and it would be challenging to eat it in the car. My husband took two bites if his burger and the chef, came down and sternly and rudely told my husband not to eat his burger there which was understandable so he stopped. We understood the request and respected it. I was just shocked at how rude the chef was. He did not ask politely but demanded and sternly asked which startled me and my kids. It was as if we committed a terrible crime. My husband only took two bites of his burger at that time and wrapped it back in the paper bag. BUT they were also not happy we decided to eat in even if we bought the my food and my kids food there. We spent over a $100 dollars at their restaurant and they kept repeating it was take out. I kept asking if it was okay to eat in (the food we ordered from them and we are the only customers there) and they kept giving me murmurs and frowned faces. The chef even went down to cashier’s area which was directly at our side to watch us and ensure my husband was not eating. My husband had long gone packed his burger when he was told the first time. To make matters worse, they kept repeating take-out and I kept saying, is it ok to eat in since we bought the food there? WE WERE THE ONLY customers there (now I understand why the other surrounding restaurants were packed and they were empty). I asked for a spoon because my daughter ordered soup and they said they had no plastic spoons for the take out bag but we were dining in by now. They didn't bother to offer us proper metal spoons for my daughter's soup. I didn’t bother asking for a metal spoon because at this point they were clear they wanted us to leave. I’ve never been in such an unpleasant restaurant. Our lunch was completely ruined. My Chirashi Don was very meager - barely half of the take out bowl (I took 2 bites from the bowl on photo attached below) for $24 before taxes. This was at the end of our Jasper trip and this was not a good ending. This was not aligned with all the other wonderful experience we had at Jasper.
I almost never leave 1 star reviews because I know most people leave negative feedback and rarely positive ones. I always made the effort to leave positive reviews. This was my first one star review which should say a lot. I was really contemplating leaving this feedback because of what small businesses had to go through during the pandemic. But I realized for a business to thrive the relationship has to be both ways. (Scroll down on the reviews and you will see similar feedback from a month and couple of months ago). The customers also have to be treated right so we leave great reviews. I didn't want that kind of behaviour to be repeated and I was hoping this review would help them treat the next customer better. We are all in this together. Restaurants with great...

In this picturesque enclave of Jasper, amidst the grandeur of the Rockies, lies a jewel of culinary delights - One Sushi. Alas, my recent visit was marked by a lamentable turn of events, for the much-celebrated Sushi Party Platter, a symphony of flavors once eagerly anticipated, is now but a memory.
The decision to retire this opulent assortment of delicacies left me disheartened, for it was a centerpiece of gatherings and a testament to the artistry of sushi craftsmanship. The symphony of colors and textures, now lost, was a visual delight that heightened the anticipation of the culinary journey that lay ahead.
Yet, amidst this somber announcement, it is imperative to acknowledge the undeniable prowess of One Sushi's culinary artisans. The sushi, albeit bereft of its ensemble glory, retained its exquisite quality and delectable taste. Each morsel was a testament to the precision and finesse of their skilled hands.
The melt-in-your-mouth freshness of the fish, harmoniously paired with the velvety embrace of perfectly seasoned rice, remained a hallmark of One Sushi's offerings. The subtle interplay of flavors and textures was a nod to the meticulous attention bestowed upon each creation.
Despite my melancholy at the absence of the Sushi Party Platter, I must commend One Sushi for their unwavering commitment to culinary excellence. The flavors that graced my palate were a reminder of the artistry and dedication that permeates their kitchen.
In this realm of gastronomy, change is the only constant, and while the departure of a beloved creation may evoke a pang of regret, it is a testament to the evolution and innovation that propels the culinary world forward. Thus, I depart One Sushi with mixed emotions - a lament for the departed platter, yet a contented palate, savoring the enduring excellence of their sushi creations.
Bravo, One Sushi, for your culinary artistry, and may the legacy of your creations continue to enthrall the palates of Jasper...
Read moreHOW ON EARTH IS THIS PLACE 4.3 STARS?? I have NEVER had such a bad dining experience in the past 20+ years of my life.
After ordering and starving for about 50 minutes, our first dish finally arrived except it was NOT what we ordered. The server said she will go back and check. A minute later, a different server brought the same dish to us again, and we explained again that we DID NOT order this. We also repeated our order back to her, which she acknowledged and took the dish away. 5 minutes later, another server brought the same dish back to us for the 3RD time. She didn’t even look surprised when we returned the dish for the 3RD time so it’s quite obvious that they’re just trying to avoid the issue here. At the end when we asked for our bill, and surprise, they still tried to charge us with what we DID NOT eat and DID NOT order.
Also, as a group of 4, we were initially provided with only 2 sets of plate and utensils. We had to ask for 2 extra sets TWICE which only arrived 10 minutes after our food was served. The server said they were short-staffed, which I usually empathize with (I was a server myself for 2 years). However, looking around, there were only 2 other tables. There were at least 4 servers. How many staff do you need to properly serve 3 tables?
Not to mention the food was extremely OVERPRICED. Each item is about 2x the price of a typical mid-to-high end Japanese restaurant, and 3-4x the price of a typical simple sushi take-out place. I guess it’s because there are few sushi places around Jasper but IMO it is definitely NOT worth it. Go have yourself a nice steak & wine with that money.
I am absolutely dumbfounded by all the other positive reviews which lead us to choosing this restaurant at first. Perhaps you will have a better experience if you’re white? After-all the other tables (caucasian folks) did seem to receive a much better treatment...
