Overall, I did not have a good experience at this establishment...and not because the Jays lost game 7! The sour experience mostly involved security and the ridiculous access to the bathrooms (or lack thereof).
This was my first time at Rendezviews. While lining up to get in there was more than one instance where someone from the street bribed their way past the line via soft-talking the security. And no, they were not VIP. I was also really annoyed that the Bouncer at the check-in threw away my food, bottled water and electrolyte drink (Biosteel) that I had brought with me to celebrate on the street afterwards if the Jays ended up winning The Series. Nowhere on the watch party events page did it mention that "no outside food or drink is permitted". It's also quite surprising for an outdoor event. Heck, even Rogers Centre allows outside food and drink! Furthermore, for the hour and a half waiting in line there was zero indication anywhere that food or drink was not permitted. And there was a $10 cover! But, that's fine, I just didn't spend as much as I otherwise would have.
These are fairly minor quarrels but what really annoyed me was the security guard who wrongfully put his hands on me in the bathroom line. The bathroom itself is actually located inside a different establishment adjacent to Rendezviews, while the line is an an alleyway that connects the two establishments. If that isn't odd enough when I went to use the bathroom during the latter part of the game the security guard told everyone that the bathroom was CLOSED FOR THE NIGHT, without giving a reason. I'm thinking to myself, "There are hundreds of people watching the game here and you're going to close the only bathroom they have access to"? After a few minutes I noticed people were being allowed into the bathroom again. I went to the guard and asked "What happened? I thought the bathroom was closed?" He told me "We decided to re-open it". So, within a few minutes the bathroom was closed and then re-opened. Moments later while I'm waiting alone in the men's line for the bathroom two girls show up. The guard for some reason decided to put BOTH of his hands on me and move me aside. It was literally just me, waiting patiently and quietly in the MEN'S LINE and this dude, without asking me to move somewhere (even though the girls were in a separate line), grabs me by my chest and abdomen and pulls me further back so that two girls in skimpy dresses can walk a red carpet to the bathroom. This is physical harassment! It's not like I was blocking any entrances or pathways. I'm literally just standing still in the men's line waiting for a spot in the men's bathroom to open up. It's not like the girls came up behind me and I refused to move. They came up to the bathroom, ADJACENT TO ME, with enough space for everyone to wait. You don't put your hands on a patron unless they are acting violently or causing harm to others! I don't know if this guy thinks I'm going to spontaneously and randomly attack the girls or if his brain just overloads when he sees young girls. On any other night I would have made a scene but because it's Game 7 of the World Series I wasn't going to let some asinine guard ruin my night.
Needless to say, I won't ever come back here. The security guards here are disingenuous, lack basic judgment and situational thinking and communicate poorly. In case you are wondering who to look for the guard who harassed me is in his early to mid 20s, roughly 6'2-6'4 with a dark complexion. I'm not sure what it is about me that offended him. Maybe I physically fit some sort of profile that turns him off. Or maybe he just wanted to look macho in front of two young girls! Either way, it's inexcusable to put his hands on me the way he did. I'm sure this wont be the last time he does this, either. Anyway, I gave 2 stars for the nice view. Not sure how the food is because I didn't care to try any. A part of me is glad the Jays didn't win because it would forever be associated with this sour experience I had at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh, what a night at the Copa America opening game at RendezViews! We arrived an hour early, full of excitement and anticipation. The staff were initially great, guiding us to an available table (without any reservation tag) and even helping us wipe off the rainwater. All was well until the game actually started.
Then, enter the tall guy in the black shirtāsecurity, manager, overlord, who knows? He told us we had to move from the area we were seated in because, apparently, someone paid for the whole section. This was news to us, given that we'd been guided there, ordered food using the table number, and had our drinks and food brought to that very table.
We tried to explain this to him, but he wasn't having any of it. With an impatient scowl, he barked, "No arguing anymore, you have to move right now." So, we moved. To the back. Because, clearly, as paying customers, our comfort and enjoyment are secondary to their need to create some imaginary VIP section.
And then it rained. Heavily. And there we were, soaking wet, trying to enjoy the game. The right side of the screen, where we were relegated, had no umbrellas. Meanwhile, the so-called "paid VIP section" on the left had umbrellas on every table, all nicely folded and unused. Only a third of the tables in that section were occupied, while we regular folk were left to drown.
The scene was beyond ridiculous. It's clear the organizers have zero management skills and absolutely no respect for regular customers. Their priority is creating a facade of a popular, crowded venue to attract companies and event organizers willing to pay for space.
Dear RendezViews, your business model is a joke. When the crowd realizes they're just being used and thrown away, your popularity will crumble faster than your customer service.
Avoid this place if you value your dignity and your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a special place that just opened up their huge colorful patio and is seeing a lot of footfalls lately. It has a very friendly greeting at the reception and usually the waiting line moves fast, if you go there without a reservation. It is a BIG place, would rather call it a 'food park' with a bar, rather than a patio. There is music, a huge screen showing mostly sports or some visual effects, lots of benches and the vibes are young and cheerful. The service is good and so is the ambiance (you can see CN tower from there and the place has mastered in visual artwork and placement of lights), but this comes with a high cost. The food menu is limited, and my experience with the food was lukewarm. I ordered Chicken bites which were a bit lackluster but I'm sure some other items on the menu may taste better.
The drink menu on the other hand is much better in my opinion. There is a subtle variety of cocktails, beers and liquor. I enjoyed their Tanqueray Watermelon Mint drink. But don't get me wrong, almost EVERYTHING is overpriced and it almost feels like a money grub, right after the covid pandemic, where they have used this opportunity to the max to get money out of the pockets of those who waited long enough to spend a fun time with their friends outside their homes. It does not at all compensate for the service provided, as you are not even given plates for food, which is served in a take out box with a single napkin and single plastic cutlery. It is almost like they want you out as soon as possible so they can have more footfalls to pay the hefty price of enjoying this establishment. That is the only downside I see to the whole business model, but I had a great time there. I would recommend going there with a group of more than 3 people to enjoy this place to the most, and one can expect more from their bar than...
