The Town Crier Pub is truly a hidden gem in the heart of the city. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, with a warm, cozy vibe that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. What truly sets this place apart is the incredible variety of drinks they offer—far beyond what you’d typically expect from a pub. We were pleasantly surprised to find Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier from Germany and an original English beer on the menu—both were perfectly chilled and absolutely delightful. To complement our drinks, we ordered the seafood fettuccine, which was rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The balance of creamy sauce and fresh seafood was spot on, making it one of the best pasta dishes we’ve had in a pub setting. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. It’s rare to find a place that combines such a wide drink selection, delicious food, and genuinely warm service. Whether you’re out for a casual evening or looking to explore international brews, the Town Crier Pub is a must-visit. Highly recommended.

Great pub with an impressive beer menu! The fare is mainly German/Belgian as are the majority of the beers available however many more countries and types are available. The pub itself is just below street level with a great dining room with plenty of light (we were there for lunch). There is also an ample street-level patio festooned with colorful umbrellas to keep the area cooler in the summer. Food-wise they have mainly pub food (duh) yet a nice offering of German food as well as poutine (several types - we had the Indian one with curry and it was wonderful!). For my main I had the schnitzel (pictured) which was perfectly cooked! My wife had a delicious order of veggie Belgian flatbread, my younger daughter had a wonderfully flavored charcoal grilled hamburger and my other other daughter also had schnitzel. Was all very delicious! For my beer I had the Schofferhofer Grapefruit Radler which was refreshing and very drinkable! Great visit!

This place saves us all the time. The reason is that we finish work super late and when we are hungry we come here. The kitchen is open until one is, and the staff is always amicable and helpful, although it’s very late. The good thing is that when you are hungry at night, your options are limited, but at this pub, you get healthy, tasty and delicious food all the time. Almost every night, we get soup, either Belgian onion soup or soups of the day. We had mussels with tomato, shrimp salad, Flatbread with salmon or beef (not crazy about this last one) Notable here are the burger, fried cauliflower, grilled calamari, and also the sandwich steak. The Halloumi cheese was nice too, but it might need more flavours, in my opinion. For the rest, we want to thank the staff for always being so friendly and patient with us, for letting us stay until so late, for giving water to our dog, and for the fantastic beer.

Step into the delightful world of Town Crier, and you'll discover a paradise for beer lovers like myself. This gem of a pub offers an astounding variety of European beers that will make any beer connoisseur's heart skip a beat. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a remarkable experience.

Town Crier's standout feature is undeniably its extensive selection of European beers. The beer menu is a testament to the passion and dedication of the staff in curating an unparalleled collection. Whether you're a fan of traditional German lagers, Belgian ales, or Irish stouts, you'll find your taste buds dancing with joy at the sheer variety available. The pub's commitment to showcasing the best brews from across Europe truly sets it apart from the rest.

What truly elevates Town Crier is its exceptional service. The staff members are not only knowledgeable about the beers they offer but also exude a genuine passion for their craft. They eagerly recommend beers based on your preferences, making it easy to explore new flavors and expand your beer horizons. Moreover, their efficiency and attentiveness are remarkable. Even during busy hours, the wait times are minimal, ensuring that you can savor your chosen beer without unnecessary delays.

The ambiance at Town Crier is cozy and inviting, perfect for an evening spent in the company of friends or a casual outing after work. The pub's attention to detail in creating a comfortable setting is commendable. The rustic decor, dim lighting, and carefully selected background music create an atmosphere that encourages relaxation and camaraderie.

In conclusion, Town Crier is an absolute haven for beer enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable experience. The exceptional variety of European beers, combined with the exemplary service provided by the staff, makes it a must-visit destination. We have been going here for soooo many years with our dog - he’s a 35 lb Goldendoodle. We always take him to the patio and today the hostess stopped us and refused to let us in. She said “Your dog is too big”. We told her that we have been coming here for years with the same dog. And she just dismissed us saying “Ya I know but today I can’t allow because your dog is too big for our patio!” There were a few tables available and there was even a corner one against the wall available. That corner table was even given to us in previous occasions even on weekends. It’s hump day ffs. Not sure what changed - is it their pet policy or she just wasn’t in the mood.

Edit:

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your quick response!

I just wanted to clarify something here - we didn’t write this review because your restaurant refused to accommodate our dog. Honestly, we have brought him in on busier weekends. We have had our dog for 7 years now and we are aware that this could be an outcome for us when we are with him. I want you to understand that as pet parents, we are conscious of the risks and responsibilities of getting our dog to a public spot - be it a restaurant patio or just a park. And we wouldn’t bring him with us if we were not confident of his behavior or ours. We are also aware that ultimately the decision is at the discretion of the establishment. What we had a problem with was the way THAT decision was delivered to us. A simple “I am sorry we are really busy tonight and have decided not to accommodate dogs in the patio” or “I am sorry we have changed our pet policy and we no longer accommodate pets in our patio when we are busy”. We did not appreciate the tone and body language of your hostess. It was rude and she did not even have the courtesy to make eye contact when she was talking to us. And frankly, we just saw her smile and respond politely to the couples before us. I don’t think this can be fixed by me emailing you prior to our arrival. I hope I made myself clear...

The Town Crier: My wife discovered a Gem in Toronto's Culinary Scene Last week, I had the pleasure of dining at The Town Crier, a hidden gem nestled within Toronto's vibrant culinary landscape. While the exact address may escape me, the restaurant's warm and inviting ambiance quickly transports diners away from the city's hustle and bustle. Our culinary journey began with a delightful Wiener Schnitzel, a dish that was executed to perfection. The tender, crispy exterior gave way to succulent, juicy meat, a testament to the chef's skill. The attentive and friendly service further enhanced our dining experience. Beyond the delectable cuisine, The Town Crier offers a welcoming atmosphere that caters to all. The restaurant's commitment to accessibility is evident, with accommodations for guests with disabilities. The kid-friendly menu and patient staff make it an ideal choice for families. A particular highlight of our visit was the opportunity to meet Kevin, the restaurant's manager. His exceptional management skills and genuine hospitality left a lasting impression. It's clear that The Town Crier is fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented individual at the helm. As we concluded our meal, I couldn't help but reflect on a timeless adage in the hospitality industry: "Give them the pickle." This simple philosophy, often overlooked, can elevate a dining experience from ordinary to extraordinary. By offering extra touches, such as additional sauce or a complimentary treat, The Town Crier creates lasting memories for its patrons. While this review may have been longer than usual, I believe it's important to acknowledge the exceptional qualities of this remarkable restaurant. The Town Crier is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination where culinary excellence and heartfelt...
