Won’t be going back. I got the Fried Beef Dumplings and the non-spicy General Tao Chicken. I was surprised when the chicken came out bright orange and found what I believe to be pineapples in it while eating - though I could be wrong. It was definitely not spicy and I got hints of sweetness. Did not resemble General Tao dishes I’ve had from other Chinese restaurants, both in looks or taste, but was still alright. The Pan Fried Beef Dumplings were crispy on one side but were dripping in watery/oily liquid from the plate it was served in. Not something I’m used to and I did not enjoy it compared to others I’ve had. Beef inside wasn’t great. Staff were polite, though did not recognize my signs of being done with my meal. My friend and I put out cutlery to the side of the plate and gathered all plates to the end of the table showing we were done. Two employees then came to fill our water at which point we told them we were done. It was the second time this happened when the employee cleaned up the dishes and brought the cheques. I’m assuming this may have been a cultural difference as all the employees were Asian and not speaking the best English. The restaurant is cute though, has nice comfortable booth seating and nice lights.

Shinyi's atmosphere feels more like an order at the counter and sit-down-to-eat cafe rather than a sit-down restaurant turning your attention to the food rather than the dining experience. This makes it a great place to take your food to-go if you're not looking for this type of casual environment. However, they do offer table service and the service was pleasant. The menu has a good variety, especially for vegetarians :) yet still retains the more traditional and authentic flavours of China. The food came very quickly which I was delighted to see; I was a bit worried about the number of take-out orders affecting the speed of food preparation. However, they might prioritize those eating in thereby boosting the experience of those who come to the restaurant. I accidentally got Egg Fried Rice ($15.99) and steamed Egg Chive Dumplings ($13.99), which feature similar ingredients but with different preparations. While it was an error of judgement on my part, the two dishes were very satisfying with generous portions. P.S. They have really cute dumpling graphics on the menu and other signage so be sure to check that out!

Modern dumpling restaurant with quick and attentive service. The cauliflower dish comes with lots of florets, stir-fried in a super flavourful sauce, with just the right amount of spice. We were pleasantly surprised and glad that there were some vegetables dishes on the menu. Not all dumpling restaurants offer steamed dumplings so I was really pleased to see that you could get them cooked steamed, boiled, or pan-fried ($1 extra). The wrappers are on the thicker side but fortunately that is my preference. The pork, chive, and shrimp dumplings were delicious. I appreciate that the pan-fried option is more like a homestyle fried dumpling dish (not the crunchy-stuck-together-one-sheet-of-dumplings style). Potstickers and sang-ji baos were also excellent. We had high expectations for the xiao long baos but felt they just missed the mark. The pork filling and soup tasted flat. The prices are a little higher than other dumpling restaurants in the city but the restaurant is bright and clean and your water glass always remains full because the servers are attentive.

Used to be my REGULAR place for Sunday mapo tofu !! We go same timings after 10 pm

Today the 20$ mapo tofu was below low average! Sauce was thin, no garlic, no sauces Just Bland!

The server made effort to tell the chef Garlic was added on our request, lol there wasn’t even garlic !

Literally tasteless !!

I just had it in September, & in October seems like chef has changed !!

The server asked to re make but after serving 2nd time, i didn’t know what more the chef could do to change the flavor (when there was no flavor at all)

Sadly i won’t be visiting

The manager was not around ! Which was surprising as it was only 22:30 We weren’t even asked to pay less for the horrible tofu we ate !

A restaurant which cannot be courteous is out of my list !!

Good luck đŸ€ž

PS- my previous review has been deleted ??!!! Seems like they have re-named their restaurant on google! As i had given them 5 stars before

Reply to the ? owner- Thank you for your reply

Your server herself told us there was a “Different” chef now ! I did not assume this actually

Secondly the watery & tasteless mapo tofu ‘s picture was clicked by your server & she still didn’t acknowledge to call the manager to address the concern or cancel our order! We were your regular weekly customers! If you don’t even treat your regular customers nicely, what should we expect more ??! That mapo tofu wasn’t even 5$, sichuan peppers were also not added !

Even after knowing all this, we had to forcibly take away mapo tofu as the only server present said “we had to pay”

If you own a restaurant in GTA, you should be extra careful where your regular customer dislikes your regular item

Anyway, please let us know when the Original chef is back & we can give last chance hopefully. đŸ™đŸ»

Also, yes my review was there earlier & it has...

Do not order a take out, you will get ripped off. First of all, every item on the online ordering page is priced at least $1 higher! Check their menu page on the web, check their printed paper menu in the restaurant, all the prices are $1 higher when you are ordering online, for each and every item. Then they add a $1 convenience charge on your sum. They ask for a tip when ordering, I included one, then when you go to pick up, the credit card machine again asks for a tip on top of your sum that already includes the tip you set when ordering! Forget about whether food is good or not, this money milking scheme is utter disrespect to people ordering online for pick-up. They indicate that your order will be ready in 30 minutes, but that never happens. You go there after 30 minutes, and you still wait for another 10 to 20 minutes for the smallest dumplings you will ever see in your life. I suspect that they don't actually start preparing your order until you get there and pay. Portions are small, price are not low, and they try to add to your bill with every chance they can find. I recommend that you order from a place where the customers are...
