Honestly was thinking for a very long time if I should write this review, and still felt unsettled from the whole experience, so decided to finally express it. I was dining it on Thursday around 10:30-11pm, two weeks ago, with my pretty big group of friends. I want to start with the fact that I have nothing against this restaurant. The atmosphere is awesome, and honestly decor was what caught my eye in the first place. I work in the area and passed this restaurant consistently for a few years, always wanting to try it one day. When I was out with my friends on Thursday night, we decided to swing by this place, and we didn’t regret it, because the food was amazing! It was absolutely delicious, and the prices are amazingly low! You know, however, what wasn’t amazing ans what ruined the whole experience for me personally? Customer service. The guy, who was serving us, clearly didn’t think that we were good enough to dine at this place. When we came in through the door after already looking at the menu, he came to greet us at the host stand. The first thing that he did, he looked all of us up and down like were homeless people or something, and it the very rude tone handed us the menu stating: “Are you sure you want to dine in here? We serve Chinese street food. Are you sure you are gonna like it?”. I understand, I am white and maybe he decided that I wouldn’t like the food they’re offered, but also maybe don’t prejudge people by the way we look? It immediately made me feel uncomfortable, but we still decided to stay, thinking that maybe it was misunderstanding. After we were seated, the same guy, who was our server, didn’t come up to our table for 20 minutes. He made sure to take orders from the table that came after us first, passing our table multiple times, absolutely ignoring us. Again, we didn’t want to be difficult, so patiently waited for him to come to our table. While he was taking our order, one of my friends ordered a dish with the frog. The server gave him an absolutely nasty look and said: “you know it comes with the frog, right? Like an actual frog?” Again, prejudging my friend solely based on his skin colour, that he won’t like this type of food. I can give him benefit of the doubt that they just have to deal with people all the time, who don’t know what they are ordering, or what this restaurant serves, but it doesn’t mean that you can be rude and impatient to every single customer based on your previous experiences!!! I really liked this place, I really liked the food, but customer service ruined everything for me, and made me & my friends uncomfortable for the rest of the night. We were nothing but nice and patient from the beginning, and I don’t understand how we deserved this level of treatment. I would love to come back, and I don’t want to get anyone fired. I just kindly ask to train your stuff properly and educate them to provide a better level of customer service. I don’t want this restaurant go to waste just because one person clearly doesn’t know how to properly...
Read moreHello! I am not going to say anything different from what already has been said about the restaurant. The food is great, the portions are generous and the prices are more than reasonable. The service is top notch ,too. Something really impressed me. I dined at the restaurant and ordered Dan Dan noodles to go. I took my food home and it was handed to me in a very cute and practical thermal carry on sealed bag. But the big surprise came at home when I opened the bag. My noodles were packed in an incredibly beautiful small container which opened like a tin. I've traveled to over 120 countries and I've never seen anything like this. Pure perfection! And one small beef. We all know how expensive our city has become ,and one of the reasons is the never ending lanlords' greed. Diners in Toronto support the landlords , and then the restaurant owners , which is very sad indeed. So I truly appreciate the high quality meals and the reasonable pricing. Diners are given the option to order either by scanning the table bar code or from the menu. It is very convenient . The restaurant has its internal wi fi Network but it is not shared with the customers. There are many foreigners who come to dine and their phones are in a roaming mode meaning just ordering their food by scanning the bar code could potentially end up costing them as much as the food. I had to turn on the hot spot on my phone to help 4 German tourists who were shocked there was no free wi fi in the restaurant while being encouraged to order their meals using their table bar code. The cost of providing this essential service is miniscule compared to their overall sales. Even the total dives in Toronto provide free wi fi. One really can't be penny wise and pound foolish.
It is not my intention to lecture the owners how they should run their very successful business, but it is rather a fair observation from otherwise a very happy and definitely returning soon...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I are regulars at this restaurant and have always enjoyed coming here—until our most recent visit, which was shockingly disappointing. We were served by someone who had absolutely no menu knowledge. When we asked questions about items, she redirected them back to us, and when we finally placed our order, she had to physically take the menu from us just to copy down the item names word-for-word.
Throughout the meal, her behavior was careless and unprofessional. When we requested condiments, she tossed them across the table with an attitude that made it seem like we were bothering her. The way she spoke and carried herself gave off the impression that she thought she was too good to be working there—like a rich princess doing us a favor by showing up.
What upset us the most was at the end of the meal. We waited patiently for over 15 minutes for takeout containers. When we finally flagged her down and asked again, she rolled her eyes and told us, “It’s not my job.” Excuse me? That level of disrespect is completely unacceptable. I asked her why she was speaking to us that way, and instead of apologizing, she rolled her eyes again.
I spoke with the manager on the floor, who simply brushed the issue aside and said, “It’s her first day.” I’ve worked in restaurants before—that is not an excuse to be rude and dismissive to customers. Mistakes are understandable, but attitude is not. There was no apology, no accountability, no attempt to make things right.
We will not be returning. We refuse to spend money at a place that tolerates this level of disrespect toward customers. As long as this employee is working here, we won’t be back. I sincerely hope no other customers have to experience...
