I recently dined at Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2 in Vancouver based on a positive review that caught my friend's attention. Our group of four decided to make the 20-minute walk to the restaurant, but our experience left much to be desired. Firstly, the restaurant's location on the second floor of a mall food court made it challenging to find. It took us some time to locate it, which was a bit inconvenient. Upon arrival, we discovered that each of us had ordered food from different food shops within the food court, including one person who ordered from Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2. To our disappointment, the person who ordered from this particular establishment never received their food. While the rest of us had our meals on the table, this individual was left waiting for a remarkable 25 minutes without any sign of their order. This situation created an uncomfortable and awkward atmosphere for our group. When the person inquired about their missing order, the owner nonchalantly stated that they had given the food to someone else. Needless to say, we were taken aback by this careless mistake. When we voiced our complaints, the owner agreed to refund us but showed no genuine remorse for the error. He casually mentioned that he has many customers and cannot remember all their faces, which only added to our disappointment. To our surprise, instead of offering a refund back to the credit card used for payment, the owner gave us Canadian dollars as compensation. This decision was puzzling since we had were close to our departure from Canada and had no use for the cash. Overall, our experience at Little Bangkok Thai Kitchen 2 was far from satisfactory. While we had initially chosen the restaurant based on positive reviews, the lack of organization, the owner's nonchalant attitude, and the failure to deliver one of our meals left a negative impression. I hope the management takes these concerns into account and makes improvements to ensure a more pleasant dining experience for...
Read moreSometimes you find the best food in the most unexpected places. Walking into International Village Mall for the first time, you might be taken aback by how empty and dead it feels, especially in contrast to the surrounding lively Gastown district. But you’d be surprised by how alive the food scene is. Especially this little hidden gem.
We had:
Pad Thai Combo ($14.99 + $2 for choosing prawns) - one of the best I've had, the flavour was a perfect balance of slightly sweet, savoury and a little kick of spice (you can adjust). The combo comes with the following: (1) a salad, (2) a spring roll, (3) a soup, and (4) your choice of a drink. The soup was clean and clear but packed with flavour. It was a clear sign that the chef is talented
Tom Kah Goong (Prawn) ($14.95) - this is very reminiscent of the more popular Tom Yum soup but with the addition of creamy coconut milk. It was piping hot (seriously, be careful!) but I fought through the pain to gulp it down because it was so delicious! Those hot, sour, creamy flavours all melded together into an amazing concoction. Bites of mushroom, lemongrass, tomatoes, onions, and prawns throughout were delightful
The fact that you’re getting this level of restaurant-quality (and honestly much better than some restaurants) food in a little place like this is unbelievable. They're the sweetest and they obviously pour so much love into what they do. If you’re ever in the area, I hope you’ll consider stopping by this hidden food court! While its exterior may not seem particularly extraordinary, it holds some amazing flavours and...
Read moreI had a $16 combo meal. The cashew curry had a good mix of chicken, cashew and vegetables in a fair amount of curry sauce. I asked for mild and would consider what I got medium to hot (for reference I eat habinero hot sauce at home so tobasco and franks taste like salty water to me). It came with a generous portion of white rice, green salad, spring roll, soup and a pop can.
The salad was fresh and crisp. The soup was a light, uninspired clear broth with green onions and cilantro. The crisp spring roll was mostly vermicelli noodles and some vegetables with a bit of sweet chili sauce ladeled on top.
The ample amount of tasty fresh food was on point for the price. I wouldn't make a special trip back. And, I also would eat there again if I was hungry in the area for a quick, cheap meal.
The person who served me was a sweet, friendly older man. This counter service kiosk is in a food court along with other Asian offerings. The food court is well maintained and clean.
The mall itself is in an area of town where some people may feel uncomfortable. This is because there are often people loitering on the main floor or out front. And it could be perceived that the behavior of the people loitering is unpredictable. Sometimes there is security or police addressing a situation. I usually keep to myself and haven't...
