Decided to bring some friends who were visiting in town here for a bite to eat for the first time & had the most disgusting experience with the staff here. We were not greeted but rather judged by the colour of my friends skin and how we were dressed. (We were very casual, and still in work clothes). My friend is also African American & the other Hispanic. Any question we had about the menu, was answered in a condescending way, advising us to look at the proper menu for each location (which we were doing). I also had to ask for ice 3 times when there wasn’t anyone else even dining in the restaurant. They were not busy at all. When we were seated we were told we had a time limit as well. They would not allow us to sit next to the window either. They advised it was reserved yet there was not a single person who came into the establishment within the time frame we were there. We were treated with the outmost disgust by the staff and when our bills came they went ahead and added a 18% tip on top as well without even mentioning it prior. Upon asking why this was not mentioned before, the manger argues with me that it is standard practice for people in Vancouver & that since we are not from here, that’s probably why we were not aware. She refused to give me her superiors business card and insisted that I go ahead and reach out to the owner & that we would not be welcome back and that we had to leave immediately. For costumer service and coming from the management and such a high end place, we expected a lot more. The food was also sub par and not worth what you pay.
As a restaurant owner, you should care about the professional and service of your staff as they are a reflection of what your business represents and stands for and after this experience, your staff is reflecting discriminatory, disreputable, &...
Read moreHere is my experience at Robba da Matti - Wanted to take my wife to a new restaurant in her birthday, and she loves italian. Found Robba da Matti on google, had nice pics and good reviews so I made a reservation and we went there today. So the host /server sit us down on a table right beside the bar counter which was the worst spot there but I didn’t complain. As soon as I sit I feel a strong non stop wave of cold air blowing straight on my face from their AC. I ask the guy if we could be move to a different table. He tells me he will reduce the AC. Few mins later he asks me if it is better and I tell him it isn’t. He tells me he’s done what he could and it shouldn’t be blowing, I ask him to sit on my chair and see how it feels. He doesn’t want to. So I ask again if we could move to a different table. Note that there are only us and other 2 couples in the entire restaurant. He looks at me with an awkward face and refuses to offer any other option but accept the the uncomfortable situation I am in. I tell him again that is my wife’s bday, I made a reservations days in advance if I could get any of the other tables, he says no. Then we stand up and tell him we are leaving. Then he asks me if I want a table on the second floor. Of course I refused as he could have offered that as soon as I raised the situation. Horrible experience. Told the guy it was my first time there and it was my wife’s bday and still he does not seem to care much and no offers no effort to provide us a...
Read moreThis intimate space feels like a pasta boutique. If you’re like my next door neighbour who watches through the front door all day to make sure nobody else’s leaves touches their esteemed but underwhelming lawn, you may find the experience to social for your introverted liking. In true European fashion they’ve managed to maximize a small space luxuriously. Prosciutto and burrata was the perfect start. I go to an Italian restaurant, I need bread, oil and cheese faster than chatGPT wrote my cover letter. Top tier burrata and a proper melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto. Perfect fat content and an overwhelming portion for two people. Quattro formaggio gnocchi was creamy, cheesy, cooked properly, well balanced and fun to say. Would smash. Lobster and crab ravioli tasted of the sea a little too much for my liking. However the prawns were phenomenal. I would eat an entire plate of those prawns. Tiramisu had a good balance of flavour however it wasn’t quite set yet. The bottom was unfortunately still slimy. Imagine eating a really good sandwich, but with a soggy, bottom slice of bread. That’s how it felt. Shout out the Soggy Bottom Boys. It’s like K-os said, no time to get down cause I’m movin’ up. It felt like a crab bucket situation. One dish elevates your senses, another dish pulls it back. When the bill came, our bellies were full and the venue was charming. Ultimately, Robba da Matti felt like it was...
