Le Flaubert — Restaurant in Providencia

I haven't been to many French restaurants in my life—this is probably the third one.

The Venue: The restaurant is set in a charming European-style house, quiet and casual, with a lovely outdoor seating area.

The Service: The service was warm and friendly. The waiter took the time to explain the menu and made recommendations.

What We Ordered:

Onion Soup: I shared it with my partner. The waiter kindly divided it into two separate plates for us. This was the only dish I’d tried before in other restaurants, and it was good compare with my last experience.

Confit de Canard: The duck was cooked perfectly—tender. However, I was expecting a bit more in terms of flavor. The side of gratin potatoes didn’t quite do it for me— they were a little underseasoned and felt like they needed more time to cook. I did like the piece of quince on the side, but I would have preferred it mixed in or perhaps as a sauce. When I looked at their website, the dish looked a bit different— the quince seemed more like a sweet concentrated reduction in the picture.

Filet Sophie: The steak was cooked excellent, though the side of noodles was just okay.

Chocolate Soup with Ice Cream: We decided to try this as a twist on the usual crème brûlée. The ice cream was a bit too buttery for me, with a slight salty taste (presumably to balance the chocolate), and the soup tasted more like a warm milkshake. Maybe it's just not my thing because my partner liked it.

Overall, the portions were on the smaller side, which I’m fine with, but for the price, I expected flavors that would really stand out. The food was good—well-prepared—but didn’t leave a lasting impression. It almost got there.

Hace años que no venía y sigue igual de bueno. Mientras esperamos nos trajeron una panera y mantequilla. Partimos con unas limonadas menta- jengibre y pedimos dos de las nuevas sopas, ambas vegetarianas: una que llevaba ravioles de perejil y otra de castañas que recomiendo que pruebes si o si, una delicia! Pedimos también linguine que nos lo ofrecieron en versión vegetariana con champiñones en vez de salmón que también estaba muy rico. De postre pedimos su clásica sopa de chocolate con helado de almendras que estaba impecable como siempre. Lo único que extrañé fue esa torta maravillosa con nueces y manjar que ahora no está en la carta. Ojalá que regrese! La atención de los camareros es impecable y los tiempos de espera correctos. Comida: su estilo francés puede ser acompañado con buenos vinos y tienen desde entradas, fondos y postres de buena factura, pasando por los clásicos como lomo, confit, corvina y sopa de cebolla. Servicio: es grato ver cómo luego de 10 años de haber visitado este lugar, es igual o mejor que antes, su despliegue es grato en los distintos salones y espacios en la terraza frontal y trasera, con quienes te explican la carta y dan sus recomendaciones, rápidos y amables.
