Naoki — Restaurant in Vitacura

I regularly go to Naoki with a friend, it’s my favorite Japanese-inspired restaurant in Santiago, and so I’d like to clarify a couple of things about it. I saw some reviews calling it “authentic Japanese” here, and it is definitely not that. In the words of the owner, the place is “Chilean Nikkei”, which is basically Japanese food with a chilean take, and not traditional Nikkei which is generally associated with Perú. So don’t expect to have a traditional Japanese dinner.

Another thing is that the hours are incorrect here, they’ve recently started opening continuously from noon to midnight. I would usually just arrive a little before opening and sit at the bar with no reservation and I would always find a spot, but now people arrive earlier so that’s just not possible; make sure you have a...

Excelent food and little more. It is a shame I cannot give the best qualifications to this restaurant being the best "fusion" and one of the best "fish" spots in the city. Unfortunately, on one side the "rolls" are rather bland, specially compared to the rest of the dishes (Usuzukuri deserves a special mention), on the other, service has an annoying lack of empathy and "push". I can understand they might have to be on the defensive side as a reaction if the typical customer are of the same kind as the ones we shared the evening with, mostly people very happy to have met themselves. But the receptionist should stop to to begin every sentence with "No", and waiters should try to smile a bit and not always recommend the most expensive dishes. Extraordinario-me parece necesario y justo empezar mi reseña con esa palabra.

El Naoki tiene una serie de cualidades que permiten que uno disfrute al máximo. Primero, es un lugar elegante pero no pretencioso. El lugar cuenta con lo justo y necesario para hacer una ambientación consistente con el estilo de comida que ofrecen. No pierden el tiempo inventando "elegancia" para que alguien no se sienta bienvenido en un lugar como este.

Segundo, en verdad llega a dar gusto lo bien que atienden. También da pena, después de comer acá te darás cuenta de lo pobre que suele ser el servicio en Chile. Lo cierto es que hacen una serie de cosas simples a la perfección. Por ejemplo, te escuchan con atención y usan esa información en sus recomendaciones. No te preguntan 10 veces por minuto cómo va todo y si quieres algo más. Saben manejar bien las pausas y coordinan eso bien con la cocina.

Tercero, la comida es realmente buena. No sé si es lo mejor que he comido porque he estado en bastante lugares, pero sin duda no descarto que así sea. Todo cocinado de excelente manera y se nota a la distancia que parte de su sello es tener los mejores ingredientes posibles. En la carta no encontrarán platos que no puedan cumplir con ese requisito de calidad.

Cuarto, te hacen sentir el protagonista de todo. Ellos parecen estar agradecidos por haberles permitido compartir contigo. Aunque esto suene obvio, está muy lejos de serlo-lo común es sentir que en un restaurant te están haciendo un favor por servirte comida que después debes pagar. En serio este lugar es uno de los grandes de nuestra ciudad. Puede parecer caro, pero no siento que así sea. Todo dependerá de cómo quieran abordar el tema bebidas/vinos y valor que le quieran otorgar a la experiencia.

Recomiendo que vayan. También recomiendo que vayan con alguien especial porque así se sentirán mientras comparten en este lugar. Creo que de las mejores cosas que te pueden pasar es compartir algo así con alguien que quieres que comparta contigo ese recuerdo. Bueno, este es el lugar dónde eso ocurre y no está en la carta-corre por cuenta de la casa. Es precisamente por eso que no considero que el Naoki sea caro.
