Cupping Room is a popular coffee shop with handful of branches around Hong Kong Island including this place just off Queen's Road Central and Cleverly Street in Sheung Wan. Opening hours 8am to 5pm (weekdays) and 9am to 6pm (weekends). They bill themselves highly, promoting their previous status of having the #2 barista in the world. So expectations can (and perhaps should be) high when visiting Cupping Room in Hong Kong. Truth be told, I've always expected more out of the coffees taken here. Espressos are fine, if you like a citrusy finish. They are similar to what is serve up in many of Hong Kong's coffee specialist shop. The wife and I had Cortados (HK$35) this past weekend. Basically these are lattes. Not sure of the ratios but there was too little hint of espresso. The Cortados were just ok. You can find better milk coffee drinks around Sheung Wan. The shop offers up a handful of western meals as well. Seating is a bit tight but nothing unexpected in Hong Kong. Lots of staff on sight, they are attentive and polite. In the end, Cupping Room is ok but I wouldn't target this place over the likes of Coco Espresso, Noc and other coffee shops if you are nearer to them.

Went here for brunch with my family. They ordered Eggs Benedict and Chorizo and Eggs. I ordered the crème brûlée French toast thinking “ it’s French toast, you can’t go wrong with French toast.” Oh boy was I wrong. My family got their food almost immediately, while I had to wait over 30 minutes for my French toast. I know their food was good though. I had to beg for some scraps like a stray dog because I was so hungry. Then they finished their food and we were all sitting there waiting for mine. We asked the waitress when it would be ready and we’re just told to wait. Then it comes, I look at it and think “ok I’ve waited this long, I bet it’s amazing.” Then I dig in. And to my utter disappointment… it was burnt and had a bitter taste. No discount or reimbursement. Staff couldn’t care less. Three stars for the other food.

This place is definitely worth the hype - I thought it would be overrated but was surprised how good their coffee was! Definitely one of the best I've tried in Hongkong - and I love how unpretentious their place is; just simple ambiance for gathering. They also serve good food - it's rare to find cafes that serve good coffee and food so this is definitely a must go for cafe lovers! They serve brunch and lunch too - we ordered the poached eggs with smoked salmon which was done in perfection. Even their service is fast and very attentive to your needs - they even reminded me of my takeaway cup after! Happy to discover this and will be on my list every time I go back in Hongkong.

Very first attempt visiting this place at around 5:30 PM July 24th. I was then questioned by the staff in cantonese: "What is it that you want?" As I was walking in head down texting on my phone. Then the staff says "Do you realize the lights have been turned off and that we are closed?" The time of the day there was some natural lighting and I didn't articulate immediately the dark environment as I was texting someone. I surely did not see a closed sign in the front of the door. I stated to the staff that I didn't know the store has closed as I didn't see the any closed sign on the door. The staff ignored this perspective and gave an unpleasant expression.

Please be considerate and show proper manners for customers coming into the restaurant. The standard response SHOULD have been " Sorry sir, we are unfortunately closed. We are open tomorrow from x to x"

You don't have to make the customer feel as though they trespassed when all they did was open the unlocked door with no sign indicating that it was closed. It isn't their fault that your store didn't have a "Closed" sign.

That staff showcased the pinnacle of...
